Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

      Maggi,

Geforce 1, 2 and 3. 3 generations of 2 or 1 behind depends on how Matrox bias you are. nothing against Matrox, I owned Matrox Millieium (PCI) G200 and G400, loved them.

one thing about tech sector is that you can't fall behind too far or you'll never catch up.

From Matrox silence, it looks like Matrox is in talks with somebody for a possible merger.

No offense, but I think one of the card is the Geforce 3 and the other is Radeon 2. Matrox is too busy in talks trying to sell its business.

          APV:

You are on crack. Matrox is hardly looking to sell. I love it when people insist that Matrox must be hurting financially because they don't have a new gaming card out. Do you even KNOW what Matrox sells? Besides video cards?

And as far as "generations" go, the Geforce is a single generation. Geforce 1, 2, and 3. No new features equals no new generation. Clocked up versions are not new generations. We don't consider the G450 to be a new generation just because it uses a different RAM configuration.

I also find it amusing when people assume that gaming cards are what keep video card manufacturers in business. They aren't - aren't even close. Gaming cards are aimed mainly at the retail channel, and doing well at retail won't keep any card maker in business nowadays. Just ask 3dfx - they did extremely well in the retail channel right up to the end; they just couldn't go on without more success in the OEM market. That's how ATI has gotten by for years, and it's where nVidia is doing well now. For all of the hype that nVidia's Geforce series gets, it's all of the crappy variations of the TNT that are making nVidia its money right now.

I'm no fan of nVidia, but I do think it's fair to say that the impending GF3 will be a new "generation" of cards. The GF2, GF2 Pro and GF2 Ultra were simply hopped-up versions of the NV10, but the NV20 appears to be an entirely new architecture.

Unfortunately I'm not an insider, you could use my name but that will probably just get the door slammed in your face if certain people are there

Any chance any of you insiders can dorp a name or something so I can get a look a what you will have a game developers conference. From the exhibitors layout I get the feeling Matrox will not be showing something to the general public. The three small booths mark as being Matrox are in an area of high walled booths with doors.

BTW, you don't need to wait till your company is in bad shape to sell for then nobody will buy it. I am not saying Matrox is financially poor, it is in good shape that is why you can sell it because people are willing to buy it, got that, i hope you do.

One final thing, Matrox is only going to sell its graphic card section, they'll be keeping the rest (video and network stuff etc) and concentrate there instead.

maybe thats why those engineers left Matrox which offers profit sharing which is alot better than stock offers which Nvid has

                              Thanx for feedback.

Now I know what you mean ...

Since the GF3 is not yet released and a GF2 is basically a reworked GF1, I'd call the G4x0 only one generation behind (no T&L as a substantial difference).

But on the other hand, they are still ahead in other features (DualHead, EMBM).

Thus I can only agree that NVidia is ahead, when counting in gamer's generations, but not in terms of versatility and productivity.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

                              Cheers,
                              Maggi

PS: how much you'd agree to that, naturally depends on how NVidia biased you are ...

                                APV,

I'd LOVE to know where you get your information. Since many of the rest of us *might* know a thing or two directly from the source, and what we know FLATLY contradicts what you claim. So put up or shut up. Idiot.
