I am by no means an expert, but I would think that something is running in the background. Try turning everything off that is not essential to UT. If it still does it make sure that there isn't something hidden, running in the background. I don't know if Win2000 does it but in Win98 if you type "msconfig" (without the "" of course) in the Run menu you will bring up a screen that will allow you to select what opens on start up. I found that a lot of programs were opening in the background that I didn't even know I still had on my computer. Restart and try again.

Good luck! Get it fixed so that you can join the game. It is sure to be a good time.

Thx for the kind words, Kindness..
I have tried to end and stop almost everthing. So far I have confirmed that having Outlook running in the background, polling for mail every other minute, does not cause the problem. Somethins else must be the culprint.
But this IS win2000. Theres 2000 oddnamed services running at all times... :/

Ill try to force-end as many as Im allowed to - and then give it a shot once more.

BTW, with a ping hovering around 300 I got my a.. Ehm behind handed to me. It felt VERY lagged, I couldnt hit a thing. Any bright ideas for this one?
Im on a 1mbit adsl line.

Has anyone noticed that after switching from windowed to full screen, the Windows pointer is shown up? I dont do lots of switching, but when i enter the (advanced) preferences, i get 2 pointers. The windows one, which doesnt trail the UT one, stays on the center of the screen.

I dont know if this happens only on the G400 or other vid cards.

That way yous can pad your scores.

            Omegared, exactely what I experinced.

Ur right, the point DOSENT trail around. Thats only my perception of it.. My aim is, off course, always centered in the middle of the screen.. (smacks myself). I actually remember a guy complaining of the aimpoint in CS being "off". His solution was two small pieces of tape in the middle of the screen. heh.

            Nontheless, quite irritating.

So far we have Elvis' server and MGI. I think most people got a pretty good ping at Evis' place over the weekend. If all else fails we will find an empty one in the public servers.

I would like to have 3 server options going in, so anyone with a good server please step forward.

I'll have my server available then (4 pm CST)if you want to use it. I noticed OmegaRed and maybe another player had terrible pings last Saturday. Hope it was something temporary.

Hope we have a decent turn-out. I would like to use my standard map rotation. I have not played most of these using weapons. They are pretty good for 8-14 players.

PS Cursor problem? I would reinstall UT, saving nothing and start from scratch.

Ping problem? I would experiment on my server and try various netspeed settings. My server is 7000 default. Try 7000 - 3000 and see what the largest netspeed you can use. Sometimes there is a sweet spot for the combination of your connection and mine.

Ok time to dust off the old UT disk if I can find it, install it, install the 4.36 nodelta update and all the other stuff, and go get my arse kicked. Oh yeah. I'll only be able to play until 7:00 pm CDT (not CST as y'all have been posting, CST=GMT-6hrs, EST=CDT=GMT-5hrs, and I'm on EST since we don't have daylight saving/summer time here), as I have my friends' anniversary party to attend, so get your licks in while you can. I'll be the one with the Godawful pings. Now if my boss would get DSL like she says, I'd bring my machine to work and get to see my ass getting kicked in closer to realtime

I believe I remember reading (in this forum) that the frozen curser in the center of the screen is related to the 6.2x driver version... which is the current version I am using, and yes, I also get that occasionally. However, it's more of a minor annoyance than a performance issue. It does not affect my frame rate that I have been able to notice. One of these days I might update my drivers and see if it goes away.

I haven't got to kick some of you [MU] bitches for awhile now..hehe.. and Thanks Beezzzzzzzzzz.. I think if I would have found out about this later it would have put me in a UT depression. If there is such a thing. And your plan might need a little work babe So, will The King be gracing us with his presence or not? LoL.. OH my Gooooodness..

I plan on playing unless something happens. I have been taking medication that does bad things to my body. Hopefully, I am past the problem, but all bets are off.

My wife gave me one of those "side way" looks when I suggested we head for home at 4:00am. Maybe I'll have to play some games with her alarm clock and watch...
