Please forgive me for not understanding why you say that the G550 is the "G800". I am a very new Matrox user, only a couple of weeks ago I hit up my friend for his G400MAX. I really liked it, but that's not the point. I was merely using the G800 term because that is what the "non-existant next-gen Matrox gaming chip" is usually called. I know that everyone else probably knows, but could you explain the G550/G800 relationship?
The G800 chip is the chip that is now known as the G550. Because of reasons I do not know anything about, the original plan made for this chip was scraped. And that ended up with the fact that the chip was released later as a downgraded business model.
A very short summary of the story behind G800/G550.
