  • CMR2, THPS3 etc... Quake

    Hi,

I got a G400 and it works very well for me until I try playing games. I kind of feel rookie about this stuff, so please advise. Thanks in advance!

I cannot understand why the gfx is so poor at games such as Colin McRae Rally 2 or even Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. Well, it seems as if the only "good quality" gfx game I have managed to play on this system is Quake 3 Arena. Not a big gamer though...

As to THPS3 it even couldn't run basic elements. I was unable to navigate well and practically launched the game being blind, because the menu bars inside the game flickered - so practically the only thing that worked was the 3d of the game. Not even the menus while playing. ??? Raster looks so bad and rough etc

Hope I made myself clear. Hope to fix it some way. The same problems under Win2k and XP as well.

Is it true, that playing games on Matrox G400 is a common problem or it's just me?... I believe it should be possible to push the limits and get that shiny 3d picture I've seen on my friends PCs (with GeForce2). :\

Colin McRae Rally 2 is quite old game already, so don't expect to have as high detailed graphics as Rally Trophy has.
Personally I think CMR2 is pretty enough and smooth to play with 1024x768 resolution 32-bit color with almost every detail on.

Have you set your graphic options in the game or did you go straight to play rally?

By the way, my friend has a GeForce 2 MX400 64Mb and AMD Duron@650 MHz, and he can't play CMR2 with 1024x768, so go and figure out if this is the issue with CPU or graphic card.

well... generally i would say, that geforce showed colin's car with beautiful blue windows, but my g400 dual wouldn't even give me any transparency, not to mention blue color

i believe i have to mess around with drivers.
it's silly to come here and hope for someone to answer my problem always gotta do the stuff u'r self! :P if u know what i mean...

Have you installed the latest drivers? Have you uninstalled your previous card correctly? What CPU do you have?

yep, but u see, it's ever since i bought it from the shop back in dec. '99.

do u mean powerdesk stuff? a clean install.

          currently i'm running this conf:
          p450 512 sdram @ WinXP

          :\

not a gamer's dream choice, but i believe that should do it for CMR2 or THPS3. quake3a was very OK.
