I used to use a GeForce3, and run the game in 1024x768x32 with trails and maximum draw distance, and for the most part, there was not even a hint of stuttering. I never bothered to measure the FPS "back then", since there was no point in doing so.

This is what leads me to believe that it is not the sound chips fault. Why would the sound chip induce stuttering the moment I switch from GeForce3 to Parhelia?

What are your system specs? Oh, and how did you make the FPS counter stick to the screen shot?

Yeah I know - I spotted a post by RichieG over at the official Matrox forums stating that you guys are looking into it.

Best of luck - I'm a software dev and I know just how hard it is to track down seemingly random bugs

I'm obviously overlooking something, but how, exactly, did you make the FPS "not disappear" from the screen shots? As you can see in my initial post, those screenshots were taken with FRAPS, with the FPS counter on, but it doesn't show.

Sorry for bringing this thread ot the top again, but I just can't let the issue go

I just tried with the GTA 1.1 patch, but there was no increase in the FPS.

chr_79: Could you please take a screenshot of the same position as your "screen 1" but facing the Car Dealer (or whatever it's supposed to be) with the FPS showing?

I get between 8 to 20 FPS on those spots. And my CPU is 1.5 times as fast as yours. I know I've been told it might be because I have an SMP system, but I don't quite buy it.

First, GTA3 doesn't support SMP, so it should have no effect what so ever. Second, I had excellent framerates with an old el-cheapo GF3 on the exact same system.

                      This is just so weird
