So if I only play on a single (or have only one active) CRT (does VSYNC matters?) I won’t have banding problems even if I have FAA16x on?

If you only play with one monitor you will still get the banding issue regardless of whether you have v-sync on or off, though by turning off FAA 16x the method of aliasing used by the Parhelia you can lessen or rid yourself completely of banding.

        Hey Eon,

don't let 3dfx's wild speculations confuse you ...

The banding depends solely on the amount of workload you put onto the Parhelia.

That means, enabling VSync reduces banding, disabling FAA reduces banding, lowering the screen res reduces banding, but as far as I observed, it is always there, but sometimes just too subtle to be seen under "normal" circumstances.

...and it seems to vary from card to card.

Well when I turn off FAA 16 x on my card I get no banding, when I turn it on I get banding. Also in my case, when I turn v-sync on it makes no difference from having it off, ie the same level of banding. So I would not call it wild speculation Maggi, this is just my experiece with the Parhelia and as we have already established it is different from card to card and therefore it is more than likey you have had different experiences to me.

              Hi 3dfx,

please don't take it as a personal offense or something like that.

              first you wrote:

I take it that you just forgot the comma at the beginning of your first sentence, otherwise it reads "no banding can occur on one crt ... "

and your claim that "usually the bading can be resolved by turing FAA 16x off" is an observation on your system, but there are plenty of others that still see it without FAA

              then you wrote:

so it doesn't make a difference if you have VSync on or off ???

how come that Matrox' techsupport themselves suggest to turn it on for reducing the banding ?

              ...

Do you now understand why I categorized your comments as wild speculations ?

things dont get drawn properly or sometimes not at all (think especially pavements and stuff), and other weird things, like blue lines around trees and bridges and other "sprite like" (2D) objects.

those are my main problems, the patch did a little to none to solve this.

For the rest the Game is actually quite good, if it weren't for the poor programming and cheap "if we make a another GTA it will sell, no matter if it is good or not" attitude, the game would actually have been very good.

Edges of my sprites are fvcked up totally.
They make stuff behind them transparent, and gives all kinds of strange effects.

The blue stuff is around trees is normal, it happend on GTA3 and it happens on GTAvc for my ati 8500 as well(as well as othe cards).

If you look at trees with the sky in the background they look good, but with a hill or something behind it, it will look like crap. Some kind blending gone wrong.

It seems I was lucky because I have tried several games and I don't see any regardless if VSYNC or FAA-16x are on or not.

Might be to do with the texture compression that the videocards do. I don't see it on my old but sturdy G400 Max, as it uses un-compressed textures read from the harddrive.

                          I have seen it on a 9700Pro and GF4 Ti 4600 though.

Yay, i had the late drwing crap too. Burning along, and would slam into invisibility, and then the gates would appear....annoying, also driving on invisible floors is fun too.....
I put the frame limiter to ON. Its the only way to get it to work correctly...

AGP thingy is at 256Mb (aperture) 8x transfer speeds, .....?
haven't noticed any 'blue' shifts anywhere....
