      Does it need the dx9 beta driver to run

      (and perhaps it's just one setting which has to be set to low, bumpmapping or whatever?)

        Don't know, I just needed the DX9 beta driver to play Battlefield Vietnam (altough this game is also almost unplayable with the DX9 beta driver (white windows bug)). Never tried farcry with the normal driver.

          I'm on the last (but one?) level, and its a bitch.
          the difficulty level is erratic, but it still rocks...

          The multiplayer levels are sweet with the vehicles. two people in a boat or jeep is cool. maximum destruction...
          And it is just so huge. i spend a lot of time exploring before going in for the kill...

          Mega sweet game...

            Got a nice free copy from a friend. One copy got lost in the post then turned up weeks later. Tried it at 1600 x 1200 on high on my 9800 pro. Choked of cause dropped down to 1280 x 1240 not bad. Doing all right until I fell of a cliff.

              I'm using Parhelia AGP8x and 1.06.02.005 drivers, so no DX9beta drivers needed. I found out that the game is infact very much playable and it is looking very nice with Parhelia also. You'll have to keep the water quality at medium or less and the lightning quality at low, otherwise there will be a lot of corrupted or strange textures.

              You'll also have to do the following before you're able to play Far Cry at all (thanks to RichieG at Matrox Forums):

              You still need this file in the root folder of the game
              SystemCfgOverride.cfg

              With these lines in it
              e_fog = "0"
              d3d9_VBPools = "0"

              Then look for the icon on your desktop and right-click it and go to properties. Look for the Target and add -devmode to the end of the line so that it looks something like this

              "..........\Ubisoft\crytek\Far Cry\bin32\farcry.exe" -devmode

                speaking of which ... didn't anybody notice all the gems that are in that config ???

                Eg. Godmode, Allammo & Allweapons, but I found most interesting that they also offer an option for manually entering a resolution, mainly targetted to get 640x480 when running WinXP, but I could imagine that it can be (ab-)used to make a surround resolution setup ... any of you SurroundGaming geeks willing to give it a try ?

                  If they try that then they might have a surround slideshow tm

                    Well.. just ordered this game. I will probably have to wait for my X800XT PE to play it though. Anyone else still playing this?

                      No, but a friend with Celeron 1.1A and GF2MX said he tried it and it was great at low settings, LOL.

                        Personally, I'd wait until you get your X800 so you can appreciate the best thing about this game...the amazing graphics. It'a all around a great game though. I'm still playing it. I am a slowpoke when it comes to finishing games and I like to take my time. I've played it about 52 hours so far and I am only on level 16(river). I guess there are 31?

                            Hi!
                            Did you change the FOV also? It makes big difference on framerate. I tried Surround Gaming also (2400x600) and while it runs very nice when you're indoors, it is pretty much unplayable when you're outdoors.

                              Didn't know there was a way to change FOV for this game. I didn’t notice different game performance when you're out side.

                                You can change the fov in a game console with command:
                                \fov 138
                                or anything up until 180 degrees. Just make sure you type the backslash before the command.
