  • I just found out that apparently if I have HL1 (which I do), I can enter the key, and download HL:Source, without buying anything. I can't wait to get home and try it.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

The version I got from work today for 41$ also includes CS Source.

Say, does anyone know how to increase the cache or how to precache the levels ? I'm getting certain lags in the game when scenes change.

Let us know how it goes, as I have my HL1 key floating around. I won't be home for another 3-4 hours. If that's true then I will probably get the bronze tonight from steam. As i only wanted HL:Source from the silver package.

          Decisions, decisions!

          • WTF is "Source"?

            The retail package I got includes HL2 and CS:Source. What's HL:Source got that regular HL2 doesn't?

            • SOURCE is the graphics/physics engine behind Half-Life 2 Hence the name Counter-Strike:Source aka CS:Source.

HL:Source is just regular HL using the source engine (sort of a nostalgia thing).

              • Source is the name of the new engine, used in HL2. So CS:Source is CS in the new engine. HL:Source should be HL1, done in the new engine.

                    • I was worried this "steam" crappola was gonna suck.
                      And it does.
I just want to play the single player game, and it won't let me cause their servers are too slammed to authenticate or activate or WTF ever it's trying to do on-line.
I knew it was gonna be stupid to require an internet connection for a single player game.

                      • Cool game, very cool.
I played for about four hours last night and got ~ through to the end of the airboat level.

I am experiencing random stuttering which causes the audio/video to freeze for a second every now and then... not much of a problem, but I think it is related to the audio as it happens more often when people talk.

I wonder if it is related to the new catalyst drivers i've installed as I haven't had a problem with CS:S.

I agree. Even now it's taking forever for Steam to unlock the game files. What a bunch of BS. I just want to test the game on my P750, on the new TV. It's a crappy software setup. Took less than 10 minutes to feed it the 5 CD's. Add another 20 - 45 minutes to ever have a chance to play
