Picked up my copy of ES4: Oblivion yesterday evening. tried it out for a few hours and was simply blown away.
infact i had to take a break from the game to sit back and digest it all. w00t! i've played every single Elder Scroll game, some of them i've finished multiple times (yes that means i've spent a good portion of my waking life playing these games). This one takes the cake... infact; compaired to almost all the RPGs i've played, this one is THE ONE!
a few points:
gfx are incredible. looking at the box; minimum and recommended sys requirements are intimidating. having said that; i think i must have wasted atleast an hour or two yesterday just staring at shit.
Horses!!! it looks like bethesda brought back a lot of stuff that was were in Arena and Daggerfall (ES1 & ES2) that they took out of Morrowind. You can ride a Horse just like in Daggerfall. i also got the horse just a couple hours into the first quest chain.
another thing they've brought back is INSTANT TRAVEL. open the map, click on a location and click OK. w00sh load screen and you're there. this is HUGE. If you play a lot of RPGs then you know how much time you've spent just running around trying to get to a location. It's true that getting there is part of the fun but it does get old very fast (take WoW for example) especially with quests that send you back and forth a lot.
side note: if you are on your horse and decide to instant travel to a city district on the other end of the continent. Poof you are there and your horse is automaticly stabled at the city entrance.
looks like you can buy property again in this game (morrowind you eventually got a house near the end of main story arc, not quite the same), in daggerfall you could also buy ships... makes me really curious as to what else is back.
there is a lot more for me to blurb about but i'll save that for later, after i've digested a little bit more of the game.
If you like RPGs then you difinitly want to check out this game.
If you've played morrowind before and didn't like it... you should still check out this game
myself, i think i'm gonna be stuck with this game for the next couple of years!!!
PS: Mehen > my boss won't let me borrow the 30" to 'try it' at home
