TOCA 2 (Import). In the Downtown USA bonus track, eventually the background will start overlapping the textures, producing a "hall of mirrors" effect. It doesn't seem to hang the game, and it seems to be the only track that does this.

      Uh-oh!

The white box I reported earlier in d3d Half-Life is also present in the d3d version of the (original) Dungeon Keeper. I suspect this problem to be one of d3d rendering now, not just a problem with an individual program! There must be some fundamental flaw in the d3d driver.

problems with MS Flight Simulator 98

There is a well documented problem with MS Flight Sim where the simulation "hesitates' in certain flights for a "second or two".

This occurs with the G200 especially in the "New York Harbor tour" flight.

(I understand that this is less of a problem with the G400)

The "hesitations" are apparently caused by scenes that are very rich in new textures.
I upgraded my G200 to 16mg because I thought it would help. It did not.

Hopefully the upcoming MS Flight Sim 2000 will fix this problem.

I have heard that this may also be caused by windows utilities trying to run in the background, so I have deleted everything I could find that was not absolutely necessary using the Sytem Configuration Utility.

I have a Dell P2 450 with 128mgs of ram, so this should be "fast enough" for this game. I usually get a frame rate of 40 to 60 at 1024x768 which is great, but I still get the "hesitations".

Does anybody have any other suggestions?
(I have not modified my AGP bios settings??)

I plan to get a G400 eventually, but only if it "solves" the "hesitation" problem.

        Grant

There seem to be a problem with Frogger and the G400 ( using 5.13 drivers )when my daughter tried to play the game it would not load - unistalled & reloaded the game & it ran OK - when she was done & I tried to run a OpenGL application the screen became garbbled & system locked up - reinstalled DirectX 6.1 no help - unistalled Frogger rebooted system & all was OK.

grantm88, if you are referring to stuttering or stalls with your "hesitation" then I can ensure you, that it's a driver problem. When I play any OGL or D3D game, there will be stall or stutter even if playing with lowest detail settings. And what I have been noticing that it is related to the driver texture management, so it can occur in any game using OGL or D3D. I have emailed tech support about this problem and to my knowledge it will be fixed in next release of PD5.

The following happens on 2 identical machines:

              Quake2/Kingpin
              - 70's carpet effect occurs in a ring a short viewing distance around view, normally only effects a few individual textures and normally on floor only....but not always.

              Quake2/Daikatana Demo
              - Somthing weird happens when I look up....I hear a high pitched 'data echo' thru my speakers [like modem but higher with echo], next my player will go ape, changing weapons, moving and firing, then I get kicked out of the game.....normally with a crash in g200.drv or one of the other G200 drivers.

              Wing Commander Prophecy [SecOps/D3D Patch]
              - The lens flare is all skrewed up....there is a crosshair thri it and it looks all messed. [happened after 4.33!..I think...May work now with the 5.xx drivers...will check].

Awww... and my computers too slow to run Freespace 2 [Demo]!!! ...Any chance you can supercharge the drivers?

                El-Cid:

Rogue Squadron is a known issue, and LucasArts is fixing it.

On the other issues, have you made CERTAIN to uninstall all your old drivers? I mean ALL of them? Not just "remove hardware", but actually kill off all registry entries and restore all Windows System files?

That can make a BIG difference. Whenever I switch video cards I reinstall the machine, it's THAT big a deal to Windows.

Specs? You want specs? Yeah. Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up. See this? This is my boomstick! It's a twelve gauge double barreled Remington, S-Mart's top-of-the-line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop Smart. Shop S-mart. Ya got that?! Now I swear, the next one of you primates, even touches me...

I just got a G400 dual head 32 Mb, to replace an old Verite 1000, and the result it's been very dissapointing.

Several of the games that used to work just fine, even if slowly don't work any more.

                  - Total Air War from DID, screen goes black on demo or campaing mode (although I have been able to play a litle bit on head to head mode).

                  - Half-Life, the numbers and letters of the status line on the botton dissapear.

                  - 3D Rogue Scuadron from Lucas Art, awfull looking screens.

All of them using the latest D3D/MGA released drivers and bios.

I really hope new drivers can quickly fix all those problems.

                    El_Cid:

When you say "- Half-Life, the numbers and letters of the status line on the bottom disappear," look carefully at the loading screen. Is the top of Freeman's head cut off? If so, this could mean that the PD monitor isn't set correctly for that resoulution. Test the monitor settings in PD for the resolution that you are playing Half-Life at.

Got SiN to run in OGL 1024x768, but it doesn't really like it that much (shrinks to a window, even when you put it at full-screen).

Now I got corrupted textures and text. By corrupted textures I mean: Wall-textures get a 'grating-like-design' on them while running/walking. Corrupted text is just that, unreadable junk. I keep saying it could be a bug in the game, but then again, Windows is doing strange things as of lately as well, more of that is described in the MHW thread on http://forums.gagames.com/forums/For...ML/003615.html

Mechwarrior3...hmmm...Not really a big problem but the menu graphics don't display properly. On a friends P2-400 with G200 the menu background is constantly moving [kinda paralaxed] and buttons cause shockwaves. On my AMD K6-2-300 the background is stationary and no shockwaves....makes me think I may be missing more from the game graphics.....dunno yet tho....another friend says his works as it should on his Cyrix 300 with Voodoo2....hmm...

                          Ash, Bill,

Following Matrox uninstall recomendations, I did reboot in Safe mode and proceed to delete all the video adapters that appeared there. Then I rebooted the system, and it did installed the G400 drivers. Which it's the only adapter that now appears on the System control panel.

However I recognice that the Direct-X control panel still shows all the previous drivers that have been installed on the system. But I don't know how to get rid of them. Or if they really have any effect at all.

Maybe a clean Windows 98 installation could solve all the problems, but it would mean to reinstall many other applications and do a lot of costumization that I am not willing to do.

In any case I'll keep trying different things, and I appreciate the idea of checking the PD monitor settings. Since on one hand I am using a COMPAQ V1000 monitor which it's not available as one of the standar monitors. And I have notice that the max Half-Life resolution available which I tried to use, doesn't seem to be available as one of the standar windows resolutions. As a matter of fact on one of the tries, HL started to play as a window on part of the screen. So it may very well be some sort of resolution conflict.

In any case I am really more concern with the problem of TAW (Total Air War) from DID. Since all I seem to get it's a black screen. Could anybody confirm that it works OK on their system with the G400 ?.

I think this has been discussed, but since nobody reported this in this tread so far:

G400, PD 5.13: Half life, in 32 bit mode. Exit during gameplay to the main menu, resume game, and the screen is all garbled: like 2 tiny cga screens on top. Much like changing color depth in Q3. Hope it´s fixed too.

                            16 bit is just fine.

                              Nuno:

Apparantly, Half-Life isn't exiting to the same refresh rate that you had originally in Windows. What you're seeing is a monitor with a refresh rate set too high!

Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix that. Of course, the workaround is to reboot the machine.

Nope. My Nokia has some kind of autoprotection that don´t let it display out of spec refresh rates. It´ll will go black and the OSD says "Frequency out of range" or something like that. I use a custom monitor selection in powerdesk and when that bug(?) appears I can check the refresh rate with the monitor OSD and it´s still 85Hz.

                                Here´s a screenshot:

                                http://www.terravista.pt/BaiaGatas/3051/hl.jpg

But then again, I was preety sure this was a known bug, I remember something like that even before I had my G400.
