Shutdown problems suggestions

Just a quick thanks to all the regular posters to these fori: I've finally gotten my system to shut down on command! There are so many threads dealing with this, maybe matroxusers could post an FAQ, Shutdown Solutions That Work? My course of action was

First (as suggested many times in these fori):
Check IRQ
Disable fast shutdown
Use msconfig to check what driver is causing problem

Updated:
PD Video Tools 1.52.033
DirectX 7.0a
Marvel driver 5.41.008

Tried:
Re-install, re-install, re-install...
Fixing vmm32.vxd (per http://www.windows-help.net/techfiles/cmm32.html)
Windows 98SE shutdown supplement

What finally worked:
Tekram mobo BIOS 1.04 (release 3/24/00 to fix shutdown problems)
VIA AGP402.exe 4X/133 VxD (release 4/24/00)
Matrox Unified DOS Utilities ver 1.04 (release 8/3/99 to fix shutdown problems)
Matrox tweakutil.zip (release 4/20/00 to fix shutdown problems)

Didn't have to do:
PD registry hack

Just to make this FAQ complete, and for my own use, where exactly can one find the setting for fast shutdown? I usually shut down ok, but occasionally it will hang.

Even my Windows98 First Edition hangs now and then, but that's because some program in the background want to continue.

Maybe a keypress of Alt+CTRL+Delete will help you?

The "Disable Fast Shutdown" checkbox is in the System Configuration Utility of Win98.

You can reach the System Config utility either through MS System Info (standard location: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE" or just type "MSInfo32" in the "Run" box of the Start Menu) and then look in the "Tools" menu, or you can go directly to it (standard location: "C:\Windows\System\Msconfig.exe", or just type "MSconfig" in the "Run" box on the Start Menu).

The "Disable fast shutdown" checkbox is about halfway down on the "General" tab.
