That's what I meant ... your brackets are not neccessary, cos this is a general mathematical rule, isn't it ???

Don't know how to phrase it properly, but it's something like multiplications and divisions have higher priority than additions and substractions.
At least that's what they taught me in my 2nd schoolyear ...

Here in the US it's called Order of Operations.

Parenthesis
Multiplication/Division
Exponents/Logarithms
Addition/Subtraction

So, Kruzin had it right.

(4x2) + (4/2) - 4 = 4x2 + 4/2 - 4
8 + 2 - 4 = 6

Anyway, um... 12
