Only if Guru eats that all important, high fiber rye bread. It has to be big and soft!

Hmmmm. This could facilitate some original research.

Burkitt's work has been disputed. Now, we know that both Finns and Ugandans have a low incidence of colon cancer. We also know they tend to have high fiber diets.

Is there a bowel movement correlation as well? I assume size and density are important.

Cross-cultural epidemiology at its best. (Or, maybe, cross-cultural scatology at its worst.)

The transition zone from rectum to anal canal differes from the transition zona in
the cervix, because whereas the latter has undergone metaplasia (and it is the metaplastic squamous epithelium that is at risk of malignancy), this region in the rectum has not undergone metaplasia but is merely an anatomical junction. Good point Ayoub!

One possible reason for the higher incidence of malignancy in the lower part of the gut is to do with exposure to toxins - if you subscribe to Brukitt's theory that bowel cancer is substantially influenced by diet (for which there is evidence), and that high fibre diet reduces risk of
cancer because it increases transit time, extrapolating from tis, one could hypothesise that higher levels of toxins are present further down teh GI tract because of concentration following absorption of
water.....I do not think this has been proved though...

              I have one last quickie....

Do you remember the infamous photos of Burkitt and Africa (you know what I mean!) I was thinking of including one in my dissertation but my scanner does not work under Win2K (it was not very good anyway). Does anyone know of any photos on the web?

yes I have been looking, and thanks for all the help.

As the forums were down I have had some sleep. Feel better now...

                Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!

I did a search on "Denis Burkitt Africa photos" and sure enough, Hotbot eventually gave me links to adult sites.

Are you talking about the pictures of children with Burkitt's lymphoma? Or did he also take pictures of the "large, soft" bowel movements?

                        SIX!

Oops. Sorry, Ayoub, for answering a question directed at you.

But I find six pints of beer guarantees a fine disposition and a large, soft bowel movement the next morning.

Umm ... I love Guinness, only problem is that I tend to develop quite a headache the day after consuming a (what I consider) suitable amount, must be all that loud music in the bars

well,if you're constipated, I suggest that you eat the raw hops as the slow intestinal transit time will allow it to fermentate in your gut, giving you an alcoholic high as a consequence.
with the onset of a more regular bowel habit, this "high" will slowly disappear & to compensate, you will have to imbibe on the amber nectar. the actual volume of the amber nectar required will vary from individual to individual.
I must stress that you must continue to ingest the hops to give you that lovely voluminous & soft stool!
Warning, this advice to be disregarded by minors!
