  • Care in the Community

This is how much care in the community sucks.
My nextdoor neighbour is a mentally ill old age pensioner. Towards the end of 99 he fell and he broke his arm was admitted to a local hospital. This enabled the doctors to assess his mental condition as well (First time in ages) and the quack decided that due to his age and mental problems he shouldn't be allowed to live on his own.
The same time his house had been well vandelized by Local school kids using air pistols.
He was then after a few weeks discharged to a local secure unit. Social services came and boarded up his windows saying if they ever let him out these would be replaced properly.
Six months later I got a phone call from the secure hospital asking if I'd seen my neighbour becuase they lost him. Five hours later he turns up sitting in the remains of his garden hut. Apperently he just walked out. I contacted the hospital and a another neighbour takes him in while they come and collect him.
A week later they release him saying that he's got to replace all the windows himself which of course he won't because of his mental state.
A couple months pass and the local yobs break his bedroom overnight. I try to raise him but as normal you can't however I ring the police who come over and then go away because they can't get in. They also fail to talk to either myself my mother or any of the other neighbours. You just see a police car disappearing. We also contact social services who say they can't do anything about the window as it's his business.
A few months later our neighbour is spotted trying to back from the shops (Rememeber he won't answer the door and will only go out if he doesn't think anyone is around unless he's feeling good). He can hardly walk. Social services again are contacted and my Mother is told that he is no longer on the register as thay couldn't gain access. This they were told at the beginning would happen. After contacting the doctors the doctors agree to ring social services to have them put him back on the register.
Life then continoues on with the normal odd before like odd bangs in the night loud music in the night sometimes and occainsal banging the wall.
However this saturday night a drunk walking back from the local pub contacts one the neighbours saying theres an old man smashing his bedroom window shouting he can't get out. After the drunk has left she has a look but the my neighbour has gone from the window and the light is off. Again this is in line with past behavour.
My mother again contacts the Social services and cannot get an answer from them the phone is effectively off the hook. She contacts the police who then say contact the doctors. She contacts the doctors however the doctor is on Holiday and theres no one available however one of the new doctors will ring first thing today.
At 9.30 the new doctor rings up gets all the facts has a fit at how bad the social services have been. he contacts them and the police and they break in to find the gas (So we all could have be blown up) a single bar raditor on in the bathroom and my neighbour trapped in his bedroom collasped in a corner suffering from hypotherma.
Unfortunatley from all this I still expect social services to rid themselfs asap of my neighbour and send him home. Thats if he survives that is. Luckily the actions of my Mother and the other neighbour have saved his life however they both badly shaken.
Now if any do gooders say how good care in the community is and how it well it works and personnally stuff they heads up there arse and then kick the shit out of them.
Care in the community is an excuse to save money and get so called "Nuscances out of there hair" They just bastards.
    Sorry I'm rather angery.

what a sad story... makes me angry to think that every day things like that happen in our neighbourhoods... makes me sad that many people in other countries are even worse off than the your neighbour... and nobody (this includes, or rather excludes, me) is really doing anything against it...

yeah, it's true: in the last 50 years, technology has made some great leaps forward.. but humanity hasn't stepped forward one inch...

What a truely sad story. I am sorry that things like this have to happen. I wish I could think of something more intellectual to say.

At the end of the day it comes down to money and incompetance. Their excuse that he didn't want any help is staggering. The guy was diagnosed as being unable to look after himself and yet they still sent him out.
They were told that strangers were picking up in the street because he was clearly in distress and still they did nothing.
Theres not a lot more I can say to be honest.

The hospital hadn't even bothered to inform his relatives!!! I'm presuming becuase social services don't want them to know what a mess they made.
On a better note he's getting over his hypotherma and is being pumped full off fluids.
This weekend although I'm scared off heights I'm going to have to climb up a ladder (If I can borrow one) to his bedroom window and board it up as social services have left it uncovered. Thats weather permitting of course. If I fall off you won't be hearing from for a bit.

                  Hello Pit
This level of incompetance sucks. The people responsible for this must be held accountable and suitably dealt with.
If you cant get any support from your MP then go to the news papers. I'm sure the tabloids will run with this.

                  regards Michael

My answer was they can sue me.

Az, it's an idiomatic expression and a little hard to explain. It's not meant to be taken as literally as you took it, and it should be taken in context. It's an acknowledgement that this sort of thing does happen, is fairly widespread, and an expression of regret that it does. There is an element of fatalism in it, however, but it doesn't necessarily mean this sort of thing absolutely has to happen. It just does, and it's hard to prevent.

Have you considered contacting your local newspaper? Nothing gets do-nothing bureaucrats moving like a public shaming, and this is pretty outrageous.

Yep, time to get the press involved.

Like Paul said, there is nothing better than a public flogging to get some proper action.
