no no no no no no NO! Jim Kirk is just soooo much better than Jean Lucy Picard. (Although he is getting better in the more recent films - see a startrek captain requires experience to be great)

Experience!!!!!!!
Let's see:
J.L.Picard:
From 1987~1994=7 years experience(duration of StarTrek NG)+2 1/2 Star Trek Movies
James T. Kirk:
From 1966~1969= 3 years experience+ 6 1/2 Movies
Well it seems to me that Picard has more experience

On the other hand, Kirk would probably have evaporated a Ferengi on sight.

While the TOS does have it's own charm, Patrick Stewart is just such a great actor that I choose him
Sisko is a lot better than he was previously, but Picards early years/episodes were often poor too, so maybe Sisko is just shining in the new storylines
Janeway has a little advantage in the way Voyager is set, she's got so much more responsibility with them being stranded. It's also nice having a real exploration ship again
