This is a crime, not an act of war. Burrying one country , regardless of how much its government endorses terrorism, under bombs will only kill MORE INNOCENT PEOPLE. Do you want that?

Yesterday I woke up exactly between the 2 plane crashes (at 14.00 here in Portugal). I turned on the telly and I couldn´t believe what was happening. Everyone here is shocked with this situation. The inhumanity of this act leaves me without words. My condolences to the victims´families.

NOTHING ON EARTH JUSTIFIES THIS ACTION.

You child will grow up within your sphere of influence. If you choose to make the world nice, then your child will live it.

Moreover, If I have my way, the United States will not grow into a military state where personal liberties are sacrificed in favor of added security. In fact, it is my hope and belief that Americans will be able to return to the way of life we are accostumed to.

It is certainly true that whatever kid gloves the US was obligated to use with regards to terrorism are off now. I hesitate to say that this has given the US carte blanche, indeed I hope the US doesn't feel that way.

However, almost all social and political motives, except those of the highest morality, dictate that the US retaliate with force. Indeed as ironic as it may seem, judicious force may prove the most productive course of action in the long run.

It is important to realize simultaneously that the wrong use of force at this point could be catastrophic.

As an aside, I'm no expert in Arab issues or the Middle East. However, I have two friends withwhom I worked, one a Palestinian, who is muslim (not all are. in fact, there are christian and jewish palestinians), and an Iranian, also muslim. Neither has any prejudice with the United States. The arab/muslim world is as diverse in religion, ethnicity, and politics as is the protestent world.

That diversity makes deciding where to paint the target for the retribution exceedingly difficult. As I said, judicious force may prove ultimately to be the proper course of action. However, there will be "splash damage", if you'll forgive the term, that will have to be reconciled.

It will be difficult to retaliate without some innocent casualties, but this is sometimes unavoidable with such a large catastrophy

I did hear that Nato are considering invoking one it's foundation rules. That will mean all Nato countries will retalite with America.
Hopefully the counties harbouring these murders will hand them over. Hopefully they will also stop the bringing up of children to hate Isrial and the west. However I feel this a pipe dream and it will take many years if ever to rid the world of such cowardly murders.

US Senate supports: "War to eradicate terrorism"

They passed a Sense of the Senate with this language 100 to 0. The House votes later today to make it a full Sense of the Congress.

This typically means that if the President wants something he'll get it, including a full Declaration of War if necessary. A lot of Senators are already talking about a DoW.

The gloves are coming off.

Colin Powell announced in a news conference that NATO will be taking preliminary steps to activate Article 5 of the NATO charter.

This is the mutual defence clause that would bring all of NATO down on the perpetrators of an action against any member State.

I have no idea what's going on military-wise right now, but my brother is in the Navy and was scheduled to be in Washington Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The last I have heard from him was on Sunday. I cannot reach him on his any of his phones, and isn't answering email. I don't know what this means, but I believe that he has been deployed. When he leaves, we don't get any information on when he goes or where he goes, so I don't know what to think at this time.

Reading that, with all of its hastily typed errors, it sounds as though everyone in the country of Afghanistan knows that an attack is looming. UN and aid organizations pulling out, foreign ministers saying "please don't attack us".

My guess is, bin Laden is already relocated.
