It was more than that. At the beginning of the war in Europe, some of the the allied equipment was much better than the equivalent German material. The Matilda, a case in example was difficult to stop. Unfortunately inept leadership and training led to Dunkirk. What happened in France also happened in Asia. ie Britain being beaten by a smaller more dynamic, aggressive and well led force.
Lets hope the west doesnt repeat this mistake.
