Oh sure. I'd laugh all the way to the bank. But I wouldn't expect anyone to take me seriously.

My father brought up this ethical question a while back. If you were offered a million dollars to join the next "New Kids on the Block" or "N-Sync", would you do it? Well, of COURSE you would. A million bucks is a million bucks, after all.

But would you expect RESPECT from the musical community. Hell, no.

As for who I'm mad at - I'm not mad at anyone about the money. You want to overpay sports stars, rock stars, lawyers, democrats - fine.

I'm mad at the society that turns "sports" into some idolized profession, wherein the participants can do no wrong, and which has become a disturbingly obsessive preoccupation for a majority of the populace.

"You raped a teenage girl? It's ok, you're a linebacker!"

"Went out drunk driving and offed a few people? Parole, and you may take a pay cut next year!"

"Ran a huge gambling ring in which you fixed your own team's winnings? Well, can't let you be manager anymore, but... cut your losses, ok?"

"Killed your ex-wife and her gay friend by stabbing them hundreds of times? No punishment, NEXT!"

Even the other "heroes" of our society don't get off so easily. Rock stars get indicted, some of them get tried. Robert Downey Jr., who is a fine actor and has more native talent and personality than any of the dumb ****s on a football field, had to go to jail for his drug problem. When was the last time a baseball player got JAILED for snorting coke? Never happens.

I'm tired of seeing society give a leg up to "athletes". Kids without a brain in their bodies are given token "B" grades on "F" papers so they could keep playing sports.

They're let off easy from juvenile offenses. This gives them the impression that there are no penalties in life so long as they keep throwing that ball.

Then they get into a college they don't belong in because they have athletic ability. They're helped through that college, just like they were helped through high school. Can't do it on their own? That's ok. Bump their grades up a few points. They'll propel us to the "Big **** Dipshit Conference"!

In college, they might do some drugs, rape a few coeds... it's all good. They play ball! No penalties here for your actions.

Then they may or may not make it into "pro sports". If they don't, well it's a rude awakening. A rough reality for a former college athlete. Some of them, I confess, have the brains to find a career. Others just become lawless vagabonds. Sad, but true.

If they DO make it into "pro sports", the lack of rules continues. There ARE no rules for "athletes". Do whatever you want, so long as you can throw that ball you are untouchable.

It's ****ing ridiculous.

And it's not JUST the athletes. It's all of society.

If we go to a school play, and your kid makes my kid forget the lines, and I _KILL_ you in a hot rage, I'd get the ****ing electric chair. But if it's a youth hockey game, and your kid blows the goal making my kid look stupid... well, it gets appealed 5 times, eventually I get a couple years, and there are hundreds of protestors outside the courtroom yelling how unfair it is. "Give him a break, he just lost his cool, it happens to everyone!"

The soccer hooligans are another great example. While the police view them as a problem, the rest of society says "boy those soccer fans are crazy" and lets it ride. What the ****? They kill people, start riots, damage property... but it's all ok, 'cuz it's done in the name of the all mighty sporting event.

I'm rambling, but you get the idea. You want to continue to support a system which raises so-called "athleticism" to godlike stature, go ahead.

Me? I'll do EVERYTHING in my power to make sure it goes away forever.

What I hate is watching a football match (Soccer) and these guys are running around without giving a shit and they earn as much in a week as I do in a year.
Even better some decide they want to sulk and refuse to play. If they did that in a proper business they'd get the golden boot.

Oh, I concur that the money and the attitudes are ridiculous.

But the attitudes are because they think they're gods.

They think they're gods because the fans think they're gods.

The fans think they're gods because society has conditioned them to think that they're gods.

In reality, they're spoiled bratty thugs, and MOST of them (not all, but a HUGE percentage) can't muster up enough IQ points to tie their own shoelaces.
