This program DOES teach good things to kids. Teamwork, honesty, etc.

BUT, it also rather subtly teaches them to disrespect authority.

Consider - "Bear" is the parent figure in the house.

Every episode, Bear has a plan for the day. This plan is immediately and fatally interrupted, every episode, by the other characters - the "children" characters.

Bear then spends the entire episode catering to the rugrats' WANTS. Not their NEEDS.

He never does what he intended to do.

Some episodes, he gets something special in the mail. Without fail, this special item (which ostensibly he has ordered) is commandeered by the kids, who play with it, abuse it, and if they bother to return it, do so in an unusable state.

What does this teach kids, in its subtle way?

It doesn't matter what your parents say, want, or do. If you bug them long enough they will do whatever you want them to.

Hehe, I saw a live version of this at the MGM Studios at DisneyWorld in Florida. It was 90+ degrees Farenheit outside. I'd do anything that day to get out of the heat. Ahhh, the cool compromising power of AC. And before you complain about it being Disney, I didn't pay to get in or to fly there. I only paid for food. The other parks 100% suck.

PS I heard a story the other day from a guy I know that does contruction work about a job that he was on where the owner of the house was a former CEO of a hospital group. After he retired he cashed in his stock options and decided to build himself and his wife a 40,000 square foot house. According to this guy this house has 5 master bedrooms with a master master bedroom that is bigger than the downstairs of my house. Now that IMO is ridiculous while people that work at the hospital where he was at are srugglling day in and day out just to make ends meet.

Boy, do I agree with this.. except for one thing. I think almost everyone could afford to let Mom stay home with the kids, but Mom doesn't want to. She feels like shes being "oppressed" if she's not "working" because the feminist crap has become so ingrained in society. Typical, though.. the feminists have always been too damned stupid and myopically focused on their agenda that they cannot acknowledge the truth that has always been.. that being a responsible parent is the most important role any adult can play. Being a Mom is work, especially nowadays. If people would sacrifice their ability to fill their oversized homes up with a bunch of useless crap and buying a new car/truck/suv every couple of years as the whim strikes them, they could be much happier, because then they could afford to have a family and a family life, with Mom able to stay home and teach the kids all they need to know about becoming decent people. Damn the feminists anyway. Did they really think the man's place in life was so enviable? Now they have ruined society because today's kids don't have a Mom like Joel did, or like I did. People are more important than things.

The second part of your post makes me madder than hell. I believe that most of the problems with economic stratification and the death of the middle class in society could be solved by enacting one very simple law: No person in any company, corporate entity or organization shall be allowed to receive in total compensation more than ten times the amount of any other person working in that company, corporate entity or organization. This would go so far as to not allow Mike Tyson to make more than ten times as much as the guy who mops up his sweat in the ring. If the top guys want to make more, they need to make the whole company more productive, because they can't raise their salaries without raising everyone else's! This should extend to everyone, even to contract labor. You want someone to be your gardener? That's fine. Pay them no less than a tenth of what you make per hour. Everyone would be much happier, even the CEOs. Money does not bring them happiness.. it just sucks the lifeblood from their employees. Those of you who would oppose such a law because you just believe in "economic freedom," lassaiz-faire, or what have you, should examine more closely your motives for doing so. Is it really so important to have some rich ****ole with a mansion to envy? Is this lifestyle of excess really a realistic or worthy goal for you to aspire to, or are people more important than things? No, I'm not a communist, but the other extreme is no more attractive.

Unfortunately this will never be, because politicians are owned by the rich ****oles of the world.

Altought I do agree with pretty much everything you wrote I do want to make a comment about this.

I do agree that this may be the case in some families but not all. I'm sure that me and my wife could find a way to live only on one income but it would be at extreme sacrifices. Sacrifices that if it was just me I would be willing to make but not sacrifices I wish to put my family through. I drive an 11 year old car that has 161,000 miles on it and I plan to continue to drive it until the wheels fall off. When we bought my wifes, used, car 3 years ago we did so because the car she was driving at the time was costing us more in repairs monthly than a car payment would have been. It was spending more time in the shop than on the road. We live in a fairly decent neighborhood, in a fairly modest house, for the area, where my kids are able to go to a fairly decent public school. Can't afford to send them to private school. I am just not willing to sacrifice my family's safety or my kids education to live in a cheaper house in a not so good neighborhood. And before anyone pops up and says but you have all those credit card bills and if you didn't have those then you would have more free money. That is not the case for me. I only owe on three things, my wife's car, the house, and a medical bill from when I had back surgery last July. None of us wear designer cloths or shoes. Wal-Mart is our friend. We pretty much pay cash for everything and only use the credit card in an exteme emergency. We are looking for ways to rectify this but in todays economy where companies are constantly downsizing and the prospects of jobs is getting less and less we are just thankful sometime that we even have jobs.

Now don't get me started about CEO's, upper management, and stock holders (those that hold millions in stock). I mean in the company where I work they have put a freeze on employee salaries put yet the CEO and upper management still get their big bouses. If we have a good year the CEO may get a 5 million dollar bonus whereas in a bad year he may only see 3 million. I know what they get because my wife is an accountant for the company and she see all of this. Our company does have a bonus program for the employees. If by the end of the year we can meet 5 critreas we can get a $500.00 (five hunderd) dollars bonus. For any one of them not met that is $100.00 dollars less. And if we don't met on one of two those five then we get nothing. The company does have a matching 401K program but to participate you have to be able to put some of your pay into it. Samething with beinag able to buy comapny stock. And with most people living from pay check to pay check that is not always that easy.

I do agree with grum that what you propose is a form of socalism but something IMO needs to be done. We live in the richest country in the world yet we have chilren who have no medical coverage, who go to bed hungery at night, and are living on the streets. And as more of these Dr. Spock raise kids, who care about nothing but themselves, get into the upper levels of society it will only get worst.

We have had for the past 10 years or so one of the most corupt goverment in the history of the US. We have stuck our noses into everybody's business and have made alot of enemies thus sacrificing the security and safety of the American people. 9-11 shows the effects of that and they say it is not over yet. We send billions of dollars to dictatorship countries to feed their children, which they never do, while our own go without.

What needs to be done. I don't know, but I do know that what we are doing now is not working.

I also agree with most of the posts in this topic, spanking as well as the state our country is now in, thanks to lack of personal responsibility and the effect it has had on our children.

The fact that a simple funny picture turned into over 6 pages of posts (and counting, I'm sure) shows how big an issue this has become in our society. The part that is most interesting is that if the makeup of this forum is anything like the real world outside cyberspace, people in favor of (imo) proper raising of their children far outnumber those with skewed views, yet the minority has the most sway over our day to day lives.

(I'm totally with you on the issues of public spankings, Gurm. I usually threaten to take my daughter 'to the bathroom' or 'to the car' when she acts up like that in the store. That's sad. When I was a child, my parents didn't hesitate to spank me right then and there if I merited it, but now we have to fear the social nazis. )

Yep. My wife's mom actually always DID pull them out of the store or wherever. They knew damn well that being told "shut up or I'll take you home" was NOT an idle threat, and that "being taken home" was just a polite euphemism for "paddle to the rear end until you can't sit".
