Anyone who rapes and murders a woman/child/anyone deserves all the worst anyone can think up for him.. I just hope they are sure they have the right guy. That sheriff didn't seem all that bright.

What I couldn't understand is how anyone could stand by and do nothing while this sort of thing happens. I saw a nature show not long ago where they were filming a mother hippo and her calf, and this big male hippo comes up, seperates the mother from the baby, and proceeds to murder the calf in the most gruesome way. They filmed it all.. you hear the baby screaming as he is being torn apart, and these stupid nature filmmakers just film on dispassionately. What is this attitude? Some weird code that they are not supposed to interfere with another species' atrocities because it's somehow a part of the natural order? How amoral is that? They go on to film the poor pathetic mother trying to revive her dead baby. If they had really had any feelings for the mother or her baby they would have defended them. Surely they aren't out there without big-game rifles. I would have blown that big male's head off if I'd seen that happening.. same thing I would do if I saw a man attack a child like that..

In many journalism schools they espouse dispassionate observation, to the point they teach that a journalist who witnesses a rape, murder or other violent crime he should just report it and not interfere or notify the police

This has come into the news lately because of a pair of reporters who came upon a video of a rap artist raping a minor. They turned it in to the police, which resulted in the man being charged.

Of course now there is a huge row in the journalism community as to if the reporters violated their professional ethics

How can you compare what man does to what nature does? Animals have their own ways, and don't seem to f*ck things up nearly the way mankind does.

I don't know about that, Rob.. shows like that just make me realize how much the same we all are.. in good and bad ways. Jane Goodall found out that chimps even have wars. Seems the more intelligent the animal, the greater its capacity for atrocity.

True. But the animals have lived on this planet for millions upon millions of years, and whatever they're doing seems to have worked for a long time. In the past couple thousand years, we've made irreprable changes to this planet, mostly for the worst. Who are we to think we know better? Let them do what they do.

Just for the ones of you with stronger stomach there are a few samples of what human race can do, on Kazaa (rape, incest, pedo...)

It's astoundish how low can a people go. And, however, is amusing how human habits can vary from place to place.

edit: I've improperly used the word "amusing" instead of astoundish, sorry for the ones who I can have offended

I know english is not your native language, Drizzt, and you probably didn't mean what you said, but watching rape/murder/humiliation is certainly NOT amusing!

If anything it is sad, depressing, or (if you find it amusing) sick, and it really makes me angry!

                    Err...sorry, I'll try to explain:
In Italy there is a word with two meanings, and this word translate into the english "Amusing". I've thought that the Amusing had those two meanings even in English, but I must have done an error

Sorry, wait a minute I search for a dictionary.

Uhmm...before searching a dictionary, just other two words:
I don't like looking at those movies, I've searched for them because I'm studying a few things about human nature. I find them "interesting" from an "objective" and "medical" point of view, as to say, but as a person and human being, I can grant you I'd like to take those idiots and rip them apart; not the last reason, mainly because I know in first person what a rape is. Dot.
