  • Mail order scams Watford Electronics

Sculking around the web to see if any ATI 9700 cards are around that are being made by ATI and I stumble upon Watford electronics.
Clearly on the description it leads one to think that it's an ATI 9700 pro. The OEM price is close too one or two out of stock advertised OEM prices by other companies.
I clicked on the information to double check and up comes the red ATi box and all the info. So I order it and guess what arrives.
A Sapphire Pro 9700 not the product I ordered.
Now I would give you web links but their web site has now gone down as I type.
Anyway just go off at sometime at www.watford.co.uk go to graphics cards and then search for 9700. It will come up with one description. Click on info. Just try this too see if I haven't gone mad.
I've emailed them telling them to collect the card and ship the correct part. If they argue it's off to my credit card company.

I would go to trading standards on this, there is no indication that this is not an ati built card, the graphic is definatly an ati box.
There description (including graphic) does not mention at all that the card is manufactured by Sapphire.

I have heard of other problems where there have been alleged cases of failed hard disks turning up in brand new machines which have not been reformatted.

Take screenshots and save them just in case.

I've taken screen shots it could well be a mistake on there part so lets see what happens. Could someone else take screen dumps as well. That will make it harder for them to wriggle out of depth.

well sapphire has actually built all so called "Built by ATI" 8500 and 7500 Radeons. So technically it might really be a Built by ATI. but still it is misleading.

You may also want to contact ATi about this... I'm sure they don't want bad press over a slimy reseller jerking their customers around

If they start being awkward I will don't worry. Anyway if they take a long time over collecting the parcel they have to start paying a storage fee.
I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to keep it legally if they fail to collect it as long as I clearly specify that they've got too collect it.

                          Just had a thought...

I had heard that at this early stage all 9700 boards were coming out of the same factory anyway. Could be wrong though.

Well it wasn't the product advertised that gets me. If I missed something it was my fault but I didn't.

It says ATI, it doesn't say MAnufactured by Ati for Saphire. Plus it shows an ATI box, not a saphire box.
