Reuters: 33 lbs of weapons grade Uranium seized....
Haaret'z is so extreme leftists it reeks. You can't help yourself from noticing it so you usually take it with a grain of salt. The international mediaon the other hand dones the coat of 'equal and just report' which many fall for.
Haaret'z isn't a major newspaper here, the major ones are Yediot-Aharonot and Maariv.
Nothing wrong with being leftist as there is nothing wrong with being "rightist".
When you disregard one side of the picture only a diformed reality can ensure.
Liberals, conservatives, right wings, left wings, all have a role to play on a sane democracy, as such I respect the left wings a lot, even though I'm a right wing in my country.
I have deep disrespect for both extremes and they show a tainted mirage that has alomost nothing to do with reality.
Haaret'z is an extreme leftist paper. There have been too many debates about the subject in local forums here and too many hard evidenced proofs for that matter.

They seem to think differently in Germany, where to espouse rightist thought is a crime. You can't even view Leni Riefenstahl's greatest films there because they were viewed as more or less Nazi propaganda. Book burning is wrong whether it's the left or right that wields the torch.

True.

That's the scariest thing you have said today!
Actually I'm very far to the left when it comes to wealth distribution, but a more even distribution of wealth is predicated upon a homogenous population and a high standard of education. Japan fits this mold. Sweden does also to an extent, but it's deteriorating there.
Originally posted by Dr Mordrid Extremeism is the real enemy. Go too far "right" or "left" and you end up in the same place: totalitarianism.
We can quibble within a few degrees of the "center", but it's when the center itself shifts too far in either direction that we get into real trouble.
Dr. Mordrid
The real enemy is lack of common sense, I think. Whether common sense is wielded by a supreme leader or a group of legislators is of little concern to the people. In the US, the people are now more or less irrelevant to their legislator's actions, because money given by big corporations buys votes in the congress and votes for legislators. The minds of the masses are kept stupefied by trash TV like the Maury Povich show and other means, so they will be more easily manipulated.
The thing about democracy is, you are guaranteed a mediocre level of common sense in government. With a totalitarian, if he has a lot of common sense, the country will fair much, much better. Unfortunately, if he does not, you get a real mess from hell.

Anyway I find it interesting to see how many americans are reacting like KvHagedorn, yet their country has been built on immigration during centuries... but for some subtil miracle, now immigration is evil. Go figure
Immigration in the USA has always been an ugly subject to people living here...Ask the Irish when they came over and ran into "irish need not to apply" from the WASPs in NYC to the Chinise and Japanense "Yellow Peril" in the late 1800's to early 1900's to the Mexican Imgratants today...
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
My had goes up!
I have been here in Northern Ireland most of my life - a terrorist conflict for almost 300 years now.... We have just left a 30 year flareup.....
War is awful, when its in your own country - there is NO exceptions. GeoPolitically, there have been NONE which have not damaged one country or another... The country on which the war was faught is one.
SD - I really feel for ya man..... It was never that bad for me... One of my friends was driven from his home in the middle of the night by masked gunmen... his heighbours (he was catholic living in a protestant area) stood by and then looted the house when they had left...
Dogbert I have to agree with Vlip, here....
4,000,000 people emmigrated from Ireland in the past 200 years - most to America - there are more Iris-americans than 'true Irish'!)
Does it mean that the US lost all its culture and was desrtoyed?
No
The Experience of your country is not the same as it has been in most of the rest of the world. We in europe have heard this befor - we absorb, change and grow - Just like the US has done over the past centuries....
Dr Mordrid....
Sorry I think you misunderstood me.... When You refered to the casualties of the V2 attacks on London, I was saying that there were much, much worse atrocities carried out by the winners, thats all I meant.... But, in fact, if you research the campaign of 'bomber' Harris, you will see that most firestorm targets were picked NOT for tactical or strategic or even War-Miteriel - producing purposes.... It was to damage morale. The cities attacked by Firestrorm were done so because they were medieval cities which were primarially built of wood, and with narrow streets.... NO other reason. Berlin was never attacked with Firestorms - neither were most of the industrial complexes of the Rheur - Factories dont firestorm - as a rule.
BTW anyone who doesnt know what 'Firestorm' is....
Its a mixed bomb load dropped during WW2, by 300+ (usually British) bombers.
Key components included:
Insendury bombs - start fires.
Accelerants - usually napalm
Phosphourous bombs
Magnesium bombs
bombs are dropped over a 10mile square area
The result would be a fire of such intensity that the surrounding air is ruched in - like a great furnace.... winds of excess of 70MPH are generated, all rushing tword the inferno. The damage caused is far in excess of that caused by the nuclear bombs used in Horishima or Nagasaki - combined
I agree that bomber Harris was a terrorist.. if anyone wants to read about Dresden or Nuremberg or Hamburg or Cologne you will find out. Dresden was worst of all.. a city full of refugees destroyed in a more frightening way than Hiroshima or Nagasaki were destroyed. Destroyed for the glory of killing women and children. Ignoring the only part of the city with any military significance whatsoever- the oil refinery- in favor of massacring innocents. At least ten times as many people died in Dresden that night as died in New York on Sept 11 2001, and the British erected a bronze statue to Harris. Of course, he was only the slathering pit bull.. Churchill is the one who dropped his leash. This should be a lesson.. there ARE no war crimes by the victors.
This is a rather late post in response to everyone claiming that Iraq can hit Europe with its missiles. The UK has 2 bases in Cyprus which have no anti missile system deployed. Obviously they do not think that there is such a possibility otherwise they would have one deployed.
Regarding KvH's posts:
I partly agree with him because I have seen what is going on here in the US. Part of the assimilation process is learning the language. There are people, at least in NY, that were born and raised in the US and yet do not speak the language. This is further exemplified by the fact that you can take the driving test in like 20 different languages!! I do realize that there is no official language in the US and that is part of the problem.
To be honest I do not like the idea of my country being "invaded" by immigrants and having the experience hearing more Spanish(even though Spanish soap operas are quite popular within the older and younger female audience!!) than Greek. Each year approximately 2 mil tourists visit Cyprus and we are quite tolerant. There is a sizable Russian community in Limasol which a few years ago was seen as the root of all crime in the city, which of course was not true. I have met quite a few and most of them speak Greek. I don't think the situation comparable because the Russians are quite wealthy.
I agree with Greebe on war tactics. War should be the last resort, however if you finally get involved then in order to win you must become a beast. I believe a lot of you have seen Apocalypse Now.
They seem to think differently in Germany, where to espouse rightist thought is a crime. You can't even view Leni Riefenstahl's greatest films there because they were viewed as more or less Nazi propaganda. Book burning is wrong whether it's the left or right that wields the torch.
Well it all depends what vision of "right" is "right" for you.
In short where you put the center.
Germany just voted a left wing governement by a tad majority, it had right wing governement for almost a decade before. I fail to see your problem...
That's the scariest thing you have said today!
Why? Both side have legit ideas, sometime a left wing guy will find the good solution, sometime it's a right wing guy.
I have total respect for the Swiss socialists, those guys are badass when it comes to improve our retirement insurances and the like, but then the right wings are important to make sure that only a reasonable amount of money is spent.
Same for the army, our right wings are quite good at proping up the army, yet the left wings are necessary to avoid the right wing to spend too much money in it.
It's a question of balance, and to have a balance you need a strong right wing bloc and a strong left wing bloc, it's the sign of an healthy democracy.
Of course, both extremes are bad, that's not what I meant.
The thing about democracy is, you are guaranteed a mediocre level of common sense in government. With a totalitarian, if he has a lot of common sense, the country will fair much, much better. Unfortunately, if he does not, you get a real mess from hell.
I think you missinterpret slowliness with mediocrity, a democracy will be slower to adapt itself to new situations as a dictatorship.

Proves my point again, thanks.
Vlip, where do you go for coffee. Might join you. PM
Well I live in the city of coldness and bad weather, namely La Chaux-de-Fonds, and you?
