Yep, it's called Stand Alone Complex, and it's being done as a TV series. I've got the first four as fansubs - they're not a patch on the movie. But the trailer looks really cool...Originally posted by Paddy [MU]

There is a TV series out in Japan based on Ghost in the Shell. It's currently being released. Have not watched much of it, so I don't know where it takes place in the story line.
I read a quote somewhere that the producer, director and some of the animators for the original Ghost were working on a Ghost in the Shell 2 movie. If this is true, it would likely come out after teh TV series is done airing a season or two.
Persoanlly...I'm just waiting for Berserk season 2 to go into production
