The outlook for that happening is grim
Since the apollo missions it has been a downwards spiral....

          I'd love to!
I dont think I'd survive without the sheer conveniences that civilization has to offer, but its a nice dream.

I guess colonizing an inhospitable planet/moon would certainly bring its changes. Sacrifices would be made, but there would be rewards as well.

The ultimate purpose of advancing the human race is a very attractive mantra that I do not hesitate to subscribe to.

Hell, I'd sell off everything I own (well, almost everything) and move to Mars tomorrow. Why? Why not?

One of my ancestors came over on the Mayflower. Left the safety and security of a debtor's prison to brave the dangerous wilds of a new continent. I'd be upholding an old family tradition.

God how I would love to go out into space and explore new planets, and travle at the speed of light between them, there by living thousands of years subjectivly...but then I'd also have to leave behind all those that I love mom sister and signigant other...and to be truthful I don't know that I could do that just to go explore some new planetes, ya know what I mean....

To all those of you that wish to colonize, it means work. Most of society is either unaware or uninterested in the fact that United States launch capability is significantly reduced.

We can no longer go back to the moon.

The Space Shuttle only goes to orbit 5 times a year....

                            Etc, etc, etc....

We must make a return to the moon, not for ourselves, but for the survival of humanity and for the benefit of future generations....

Doing this means hard work....spreading awareness, designing launch hardware.....etc....

Why the moon??? ....because it is the bootstrap that will take us to the stars....

It has most of the resources we need to survive. Hydrogen and Nitrogen are the primary lacking ingredients, which can be derived from comets and c-type asteroids. They can then be steered into lunar orbit via either nuclear or steam-based rockets.....

We can fly to anywhere else in the solar system with a lunar-based magnetic launch system for a fraction of the energy/cost it would take from Earth's gravity well and atmosphere......

Please read this thread and post your thoughts on my ideas: http://forums.seds.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=207

I dunno.. what exactly was the Earth like 50 million years ago?

I would do it in a second... provided I got to choose the only other colonists who come along. Let's see.. Claudia Schiffer, Rebecca Romijn, Milla Jovovich, Anna Paquin, etc.
