    Main site

    All the proposals....

    My favorite and 1620 feet tall ;

    Slideshow for my fave....

Now THAT is a balls-to-the-wall structure worthy of NYC and any anime this side of Tokyo

Of course there is the other proposal that is supposed to be 2100 feet tall

You've got to give it one thing: it would give NYC a very distinctive skyline again (probably the understatement of the year).

I still like this one best. The rest are all too modern and nightmarish, imho.

It's for 21st century NYC for Gods sake.

It's not Chicago doing the totally boring stacked-blocks look of the Sears tower all over again....twice

The rest just look plain ugly and out of place.

I also like that design Doc, BUT its not my favorite.

My favorite, by far is the Foster and Partners Design (which by the looks of it might be the 2100 foot one)

This is just an image of beauty to me...

Anyhow, overall these are much better than the first batch, but still somewhat lacking.

Progress for progress's sake really is no progress at all.. do you really want to live in the world of the Tom Cruise movie Minority Report just because their technology is greater? That technology is opressive, and so are many of these designs.. that second picture there makes me feel like I am surrounded by thousand-foot futuristic Knights of Ni, all demanding a shrubbery!

sorry, but that skyscraper looks like it is falling down / apart any moment.

looks great from the distance, sure. but living / walking beneath / around it?

Another thing that strikes me that it's going to hard to get everyone out quickly in an emergency.

that thing is just ugly and has no aesthetic value whatsoever.
i also like the one KvH likes best, and that one is not bad either (the practical value is low of course):

That 2100 footer is my second choice.

I think that the Peterson/Littenberg Architecture and Urban Design is entirely too simplistic. Its a good design, but its more a ho-hum design compared to the others that were selected.

NYC is in the need for something that is new, alive and different. Something that will stand out from the surroundings. Be it in height or style.
