From a Marine in Bosnia.

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.

I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface at some point in the near future anyway. That is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of sissies for soldiers.

I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support was only for show anyway. Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of the burden, as evidenced by the fact that the French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and beat his ass in front of the entire Multinational Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.

He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.

I guess its an American thing

As quite well spoken by Jammrock:

The main cause is the basic differences in lifestyle and ideology. The US has a capitalistic 'keep-up-with-me-or-get-out-of-my-way' ideology, whereas *most* Europeans have a more socialist, liberal ideal's that are considered extreme leftist here, which is very unpopular. When a leftist from Europe attacks the US ideals, you get clashes like this one.
Guess that just about sums it up....

And what's untrue about what he said? The US do want to provoke a war, and if the US goes to war without the UN it won't have the support of anyone except for the British (Blair being Bush's pussy cat, that not really surprising).

We don't want to provoke a war. We want a dangerous man to be removed from a position of power. We've tried the peaceful solutions, and the UN lets Saddam walk all over it. At this point, either Saddam attacks, or Saddam is dethroned by force. Why delay the inevitable and give him more time to hurt others.

The UN bungled this. Multiple times. Time to step aside.

Well CNN keeps saying over and over that Iraq is not cooperating, but I fail to see what they could do more than let the inspectors anywhere in the country.

And with the "if you fail, step aside" mentality, I don't see why the US keep insisting on being the only mediators in the Israelo-Palestinian conflict, given that since years, the only thing they've done is worsen the situation to unimaginable heights.

Only two words then: "US interests"...

Iraq didn't even report on the location or existance of materials we know they have because WE SOLD IT TO THEM. Their report is a lie.

Maybe you're a little uneducated on covert activities, but Iraq's weapons labs aren't marked Underground Secret Lab Here. How do you propose the inspectors find these locations?

Since when did the US sell anything to Iraq? the only proof that the US and British have is a blurry picture of a platform. Yeah right.

It's not right to justify a war based on that, and it's not right to say "hey, if we don't find anything, it means their labs must be well hidden. Let's attack anyway". We're talking about an invasion of baghdad here, crammed with innocent civilians.

Couldn't say what she said any better myself

Whenever you see a report on these French/German pseudo-world power attitudes over here it's always with a wink & a nod because everyone knows what she said is true.

She was being rather nice. That Frenchman should be glad he didn't run into the typical male American. He'd have been knocked into next month, without a warning or challenge, and most likely by air-mail; right through the PX's window.

The thing the French, Germans and their ilk should get straight is that this is the prevailing opinion of them in the US and their incessant whining just brings on a big round of LOL's.

Ant:

The only CIA agents they should send in are named Predator, Global Hawk and Dark Star along with their friends the Hellfire twins.

This whole inspection thing is BS. They've had several years to bury their activities in underground failities no UN "inspector" is going to find in a 90 minute trip through the ground floor of a freaking 20 acre Palace.

Time to have the shuttle map the underground facilities with ground penetrating radar and send in the bunker-busters.
