  • Detroit Auto Show: Cadillac Sixteen

GM's Cadillac division has introduced the Cadillac Sixteen.

    Engine:

    1,000 BHP V-16 variable displacement

Cadillac is also working on a 750 BHP V-12

    Economy:

During a recent test-drive from Detroit to California, the engine operated on eight cylinders 65 percent of the time, four cylinders 30 percent of the time and the full 16 only 5 percent of the time the average fuel economy was 20 miles per gallon.
    Luxury:

It sports a long hood that punctuates a gull-wing design with a center spine hinge. Hood panels are power-operated. The roof is all glass.

Inside, woods, precision-cut metals and crystal contribute to the coach-like ambience. The leather seats are hand-stitched and the right rear seat features power-adjustable slope control, allowing it to recline like a chaise lounge. The carpets are made of hand-woven silk.

As if simply riding in such an artifice wouldn't be enough entertainment, there is a rear seat DVD information system and Bose sound system.
According to the Detroit media it's quite likely to go into production.

    SHITE!!

Its not really variable displacement, not the right wording.
When i saw that, i was thinking of one of Volvo's tries at variable compression ratio's.

Its the logical step on from the very successful Northstar engine.
It could already run on 4 of its 8 cylinders, and this is probably an amalgam of Two Northstar V8's togethr.
Don't get me wrong here, this is one of the best engines in the world, and a V16 would quite surely rival anything Europe has to offer (Bugatti W16 1000bhp also, but twin/quad turbo).

The best idea for fuel economy, power and temperature regulation!!!
Good work, may we have some cheap ones here, instead of the really high taxes...

That mustang is hideous looking... and the pickup is only slightly better. I want to strangle the marketing people that thought the cheesy "molded plastic" look was good.

I disagree. I think that mustang looks HOT! The caddy, is impressive, but I don't like the stretched hood.

I would put a front end body kit or something, the grill is too dark.

This one looks nice, and will be affordable (more than the cadillac, at least)

PS: and it definitly looks better than the Mustang

I think it was the Cadillac people who started it with their late 1990's concept cars... One way or other, I like it. Somehow the front of the Mustang concept looks too much like an Aston Martin though.

How else can they fit a v16 in there?
