I like the classic-inspired front of that mustang, but the back looks too much like a Z.

Hmmm, the lease is ending on my Navigator, may have to look at the Mustang or the lightning, depending how I feel that day.

I would take either, were it offered to me. I kept thinking the 2003 Cobra would be a good replacement for my 5.0. But maybe I need to wait a couple of years.

Variable displacement is correct. It has electronically actuated valves. Thus no air would be pumped by the disabled cylinders, which is a huge leap beyond the Northstar. Also interesting is that a throttle plate will not be necessary in the near future.Originally posted by Evildead666
Its not really variable displacement, not the right wording.
When i saw that, i was thinking of one of Volvo's tries at variable compression ratio's.
Its the logical step on from the very successful Northstar engine.
It could already run on 4 of its 8 cylinders, and this is probably an amalgam of Two Northstar V8's togethr.
Don't get me wrong here, this is one of the best engines in the world, and a V16 would quite surely rival anything Europe has to offer (Bugatti W16 1000bhp also, but twin/quad turbo).
The best idea for fuel economy, power and temperature regulation!!!
Good work, may we have some cheap ones here, instead of the really high taxes...

Hmmm...infinitely variable valve lift and timing....sounds like a dream

I've read about fully electronicly controlled Valve trains being deveopled. One of the major changes in it is the switch from DC power to AC power so they can crank up the voltage to run the mangents that are needed in controlling the valvetrain. Current systems are 12 or 24 volts and this engine was running at 48Volts IIRC. It was based off an old Ford 2.3L 4 cyc and they where getting 200+HP with 40 mpg. Theres alot of issues that need to be worked out before its practical for production.Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Two more Cadillac Sixteen images, this time from a front quartering angle and from the front with the hoods up;

Note the very Buick-like "portholes" on the front quarter panel; one for each cylinder on that side of the engine. For those not familiar with this GM tradition read this;
Portholes are back!!
Yup, electronically actuated valves will be used in upcoming GM models including the new Corvette. I hear at least 15 people got fired over this leaking out.
Also coming is the Chrysler Pacifica, a blend of PT Cruiser type layout and an SUV, the most interesting part of which I see is something on the dashboard;

I think the stang looks good.Originally posted by Jon P. Inghram
That mustang is hideous looking... and the pickup is only slightly better. I want to strangle the marketing people that thought the cheesy "molded plastic" look was good.
Keep in mind you're looking at concept cars, they're toned down a bit and made more "real" looking in production.
All concept cars look a little fake.

I believe Mercedes-Benz has a similar idea in one of their supercharged 6cyls...except instead of it being electronically controlled, it's basically like a VTEC (or i-VTEC) style cam setup, but instead of just 2 or 3 settings, each cam lobe is a few inches wide, and the whole cam continually slides back and forth so that the car is using the best cam profile for that specific rpm.Originally posted by Rags
