That's just plain silly. It'd degrade MURC to the level of a Washington DC political campaign. If *anyone* should get such a status, it should be people who actually donate their own time and energy towards it, not just money that can be had easily by firing, say, a housekeeper.

OK, I'll fire my housekeeper. Bring on the status.

Personally, I believe it is palin silly to award status to those who donate. There are, for instance, students here who may not have the option to donate and buy study material. I would hope they focus on finishing that first. I just don't like a status based on pecuniary power. Those who have the pecuniary power to donate should simply do so for obvious reasons. But really, I could not care less otherwise.

The advertisement idea, which should not be commercial, is different IMO. It comes from a member and could be used for some good fun.

I will think about the advertisement idea, though not to worried even if the advertising is comercial - though of course I have final say regarding what is acceptable and what isn't.

*does make donating sweeter in terms of tax.

As for status, there is a lot of internal status levels that you never see, that is basically what the larger pm box etc deal is.

No body is getting mod powers for donating.

There are two non mods here who have the power to change their own user titles, and that is only for going well and truely above and beyond the call of duty with helping murc out.

I had a home server glitch - read dead mobo, loss of data and what appears to be a flakey psu on the weekend, I shall get to this soon

I don't want the power to change my user title, mine was a special gift and I like it.

Another vote for Paypal although chucking up a banner for my site is also interesting.

I don't think there should be either a special status/power or a hierarchy based on how much ppl give.

Make that a single thing for everyone who gives sth,a special avatar or whatnot.

Almost as tempting as selling raffle tickets.

Really.. how many people would it take coughing up $20 apiece to afford the server? If I was a college student, that wouldn't be an outrageous amount.
