Originally posted by Ant They obviously misread it, thought it said Maxtor
I started a thread on another forum I'm a regular on (just so if Matrox did release something good then I could say "told you so!" )
After about 10 or 15 responses some guy posts "whats maxtor webiste ? is it the same company as the hdd ?"
I mean did he honestly think that myself and the 10 other people who said "Matrox" mispelled it every time or something??
Oh, better add some speculation about the card with this post:
To be honest - I'd be happy with a card that falls somewhere between the GF2Ultra and the GF3 for speed (although higher would be nicer! )
Shampoo is better! I go on first and clean the hair!

What?
Your joking right?
I mean I have used old cards under a table leg or two for leveling, or wile working on a friends pc I might pretend to take out his card but realy have the old one, then "SNAP" it in half wile he watches in horror.
But another use come'on maybe, making games, that would be fine or some CAD stuff is ok to I geuss, but the rest can go back to drawing
PS this new card/s better be somthing for gamers or I will protest
i dunno all, the situation for the 'next gen' card is sounding very very grim
quite a different angle that what Haig has been slightly hinting
this is what is see as of today, the quad g450/550/whatever card for pros soon
and the wonder card with the new 3d engine will be out when DNF gets released which is somewhere between some time in the distant future and never
Haig and Ant hinting in diff directions, former to card that will e usefull to all, latter to a pro only card, which one to listen too
i think making multi chip solutions on g4x or a faster version is a very bad idea there is quite a few hw/sw limitations that affect in all areas (not just gaming)
< read between the line mode > Go back and read more carefully, all hints travel in the same direction, all has been pretty much revealed in enough detail to let you all know what is going on. Who mentioned multichip? Don't confuse what we are talking about with MMS, we are talking next gen, anything with a G450 on it isn't next gen obviously enough. < /read between the line mode >

There are 2 things that Haig has said that stands out in my mind over all of this, Paraphrasing....
1. Haig said, A new card will come out in 2002 that will make everyone happy.
2. Haig said, Let the countdown begin!
#2 was said just a few days ago which implies that the new card will be, at the very least, announced very soon. How soon? I have no fricken idea! I personally hope it will be announced during GDC. If that happens, this means we have only a month to wait. Others have said other things as well but I feel those two statements hold the most truth to them.

Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
I think it's pretty interesting things are so secretive. I mean, why couldn't Matrox post a simple message here to the loyal customers saying, "this is what we're trying to do." "These are a few of the engineering hurdles we have to overcome." "This is when we're going to try and deliever something by....but no promises." Intimate details would not be necessary.
I worked for Nintendo for 6 years. Normally when information along these lines is scarce it means a couple of things.
1) The product is complete vapourware and is so far away from becoming reality, it's not even funny.
or
2) The product is so cool, you don't want to make any announcements so as to tip off your competitors. If Matrox were to announce a fantatsic product too early before actual availability, it would give NVIDIA more time to counter. (big price drop of current models, decrease development cycle time to release of their next product, etc.) Timing is actually pretty important.
I sure hope it's the latter. I'm so in the market for a new video card. My G400 Marvel is simply out of gas in XP.
