  • Goddamnit! OK, so I tried to take away the conversation from nv30 on www.firingsquad.com by talking about Matrox and indeed: "Parhelia is just a fake rumour" is one of the responses. Aaargh!!!
    I just can't stand it

    • Sad to say it but nVidia also has the habit of producing new varietes of cards on a regular basis. The good thing about all this is that at the end of the year there will be bench marks with cards from 6+ different manufacturers. I havent seen that in nearly 2 years.

          • Matrox has a history of producing new cards on a regular basis, too. They just have a revolution every 3 years, rather than constant tweaks (to milk your wallet) every few months like nVidia does.

            • And that is all you need too, my G400Max lasted exactly that long before the games started becoming too complex for it to handle.

              • You ain't seen complex yet

                • Considering the upper end "m" cards..... with DX9 capabilities and the incredible AA quality and speed, many complexities will become possible

                  Oh, NVidia!?! Are you ready??

                    • "Parhelia is just a fake rumour"

You know, fake is "not real" and rumor is something that is not confirmed. So.... are they not saying subconsciously that they WANT the new matrox card?

                      • I just read in the german mag PC GAME HARDWARE that in the next issue they will have a report about a new card that will make Nvida & ATI SHAKE.
Could it be the card we are all waiting for. Maybe soon will become a reality.

                          • I would like to think so (& it may well be), but it could just as easily be the P10 from 3D Labs.

Whilst the Parhelia's (alledged) specification is still mightily impressive, it appears that it will not have the market lead we'd originally hoped for

One advantage of this is perhaps we can expect to see some pretty competitive pricing. Not sure what I'd prefer, actually:-

                            1) Pay over-the-odds for a Matrox card that's the best on the market by miles, or
                            2) Pay less for a Matrox card that's as good (or slightly better) than the others on the market.

What would the rest of the forum prefer?

They stated that they are under an NDA and with the P10 been offical it has to be someone else.

Faith can be such a fragile thing. Matrox fans have been sorely tested in recent years: we deserve to be rewarded.
