Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

His use of the word "solved" has always intrigued me.
That word has a particular meaning that is not "it's a lot better than the others".

I don´t think he commented about a chip, but more like the theoretical result of some research done by matrox, that was not yet implemented.

and if matrox just double the bandwith on the chip and ram, then i wouldn´t call the problem "solved", my guess is that matrox figured out how to use the full bandwith.
I have heard the gf4ti can´t even use half of its bandwith.
as opposed to for example a tiler(the kyro almost uses its full bandwith), which i WOULD call a "solution" to the bandwith problem.
I don´t think parhelia is a tiler, but i do think they found a solution.

saw a review somewhere where carmack said the Geforce 4 isnt a card he would use to play Doom 3 on, was some interview, cant remember the site, this could mean he wont use nVidea at all

my uneducated guess is that JC was talking about displacement mapping; that's a low bandwidth solution.

re: multimonitors: remember CAVE Quake2 ? Surprised nobody's used one of those shots for a spoof here...

                    From FiringSquad.com

With revolutionary features such as Adaptive Tessellation and Displacement Mapping, one can only begin to imagine what sort of games are coming out the door. We briefly talked to John Carmack and while he can’t comment on his thoughts about the Parhelia just yet, he did say that Doom was already running on it. This can only mean that there are games and applications already in the works that support the lavish features of the Parhelia-512 GPU.

Well, looks like it was run in an ATI R300 (or something). Definately an ATI card though.

Well it is ATI...no mention of which card though....sounds like the R300

At least we are running UT2003

AMD delivers leadership high-performance and adaptive computing solutions to advance data center AI, AI PCs, intelligent edge devices, gaming, & beyond.

E3 2002, Los Angeles, CA - May 24, 2002 - Id Software™ has chosen ATI's next generation graphics architecture as the platform for previewing their unbelievably realistic and much anticipated DOOM III™ at this year's E3 Expo.

ATI's chip was chosen because it offers the most advanced, high-performance graphics architecture to power the demonstration at E3 2002. DOOM III™, scheduled for release in 2003, has been highly anticipated both as an unbelievable game and as a true measure of today - and tomorrow's - graphics architectures. Also highly anticipated, ATI's next generation product, scheduled for release this fall, will cement ATI firmly as a leader in the ultra-high-end 3D and gaming graphics market.

"ATI's next generation hardware has an ideal feature set for the DOOM III™ engine, and at the moment is the fastest platform to run the game on," said John Carmack, Chief Technical Officer & co-founder of Id Software, Inc.

"We want users to be blown away by their gaming experience," said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President, Marketing and General Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies Inc. "Our next-generation product will move gamers a quantum leap forward in realistic and immersive gaming. Gamer's won't just play DOOM III™ with ATI's next generation hardware - they'll live it."

[C][A][B] - Matrox Parhelia LE 64/128MB PCI (for rear view)

Edit: I wonder if my monitors could balance an LCD on top of them?

Also, what FOV setting have Matrox been using generally? If it's 180 then my config would give me 360 vision (on the X-axis at least

I wonder if UT supports 7680*1024 resolution

I'm pretty excited to hear about ATI's R300. It's the chip designed by former ArtX, should be quite a difference beast than R8500.

Some really amazing stuff coming out this year!
