    Pitou!

I can't say that I'm disapointed with the Pione. It's a little bit overpriced, but that's all. It's finally possible again to play 1024x768 without stuttering (my G400 was/is really good, but at games.....).

OS/2 and eComstation users may want to hear that a 3rd party driver developer should get (it should be clear which one it is....), specs for Parhelia any day now. The Parhelia Testboard arrived in the first week of December 2002 at the mentioned developer.
Thank god I can hopefully switch to accelerated speed end of Feb, if the guys send me the driver.....I've been waiting for this till mid of August, the time I bought the Parhelia.....
    GenGRADD is slllooooowwww....but works!

Change: Corrected a minor error....and updated info for OS/2 users...

        1. Quarter: Matrox Parhelia 8X

As the name lets it assume, the Parhelia 8X is a AGPx8 modification of the Matrox Parhelia. This is to replace the original Parhelia directly, after the stocks of the original chip are used up. When this will be is still uncertainly, many unfortunately at present later than after the yearly beginning can it is however actually hardly be. Uncertain it is likewise whether this chip will have still different improvements: There is the completely unconfirmed assumption that the Parhelia 8X could have still some other hardware-fixed and higher clock frequencies, which can be however only waited for.

        2. Quarter: Matrox Parhelia 2

This under the code name " Pitou " of Matrox advanced project is to help Parhelia architecture properly on the jumps, the prognosticated in relation to speed increase the original Parhelia should be very high. Which means this concretely, is however unknown. To present we can do us only once a low manufacturing process of 0.13 micron opposite the original Parhelia (0,15 micron) , which should help the chip to substantially higher clock rates.

In addition most likely higher storing document and DirectX9-Faehigkeiten come. Ideally would be natural, even if Matrox a few range-careful feature would to it-pack, their absence of the achievement of the original Parhelia were very detrimental and is. Cheaply will this package however surely not, one can again on a price framework from 450 to 500 euro furnish itself. However this times the attack on ATi is & to really succeed nVidia, to Matrox wants actually again its own niche in the diagram map market to capture.

However only the technical data of the Parhelia 2 are not at present uncertain, it are even still vakant whether the chip will at all appear. It is safe that the Parhelia has its Tape Out behind itself, which distribution in 2. Quarter would quite make possible. However there is also the wild rumor that first Samples of the chip could not convince, whereupon Matrox in-rammed the entire project and in the future completely from the 3D-Markt to keep out wants. And there Matrox operated in the usual very discreetly, will be also still confirmed this rumor now neither or reliably disclaim let.

hmm kinda off topic but for those who are interested in DeltaChrome...

Can one do what placed S3 so far to the delta chrome chip on the S3-Webseiten, when proper conception or announcement of the chip rates? Rather - and we in such a way do not wait further for a really official presentation of the new S3-Chips. In accordance with the Vorabinformationen the picture of a DirectX9-Chips can be drawn, which will be thought probably rather for the Mainstream market, zumindestens assumes we the latter very strongly. Similarly as GeForceFX and Radeon 9700 pro sets the S3 delta chrome on an architecture of 8 Rendering pipelines and probably 128 bits a GDR memory interface, however with clock rates of "only" 300 MHz chip clock and/or. 300 to 350 MHz storing act. Information for the allocation memory interfaces or to other range-careful measures is not present at present - without these would be however already nearly lost the delta chrome. Here will have to be been waiting, which will still mention S3 to this topic. Nevertheless S3 thereby can hardly step into competition to the GeForceFX or Radeon 9700 pro - which one does not want probably also at all with the company nut/mother VIA in the background however. S3-Chips must be favorable to manufacture since the assumption through VIA in the usual primarily, why S3 sets manufacturing process with the delta chrome also directly to the 0,13 micron. With it can be brought the delta chrome also simply into the mobile market (planned on the part of S3 with the "Columbia SMA" chip already) and later even once in Via Mainboardchipsaetze to integrate. Corresponding also clearly no HighEnd product from S3 is to be expected to. That the delta chrome like the GeForceFX as DirectX 9,0+ one proves (Radeon 9700 pro "only" DirectX 9,0), must nothing say: For the plus sign the over fulfilment of an individual DirectX9-Features is enough. This classification states still nothing whether the S3-Chips DirectX 9,0 over-fulfills as substantially as the GeForceFX. Interesting at the delta chrome would be all at the most still another "Advanced Deferred Rendering" so-called of S3, however cannot be said with the at present available information, in this marketing or however reality is as far. S3 has the mass production of the chip with that 1. Half-year indicated, what a very far time interval is. We therefore think at present that the delta chrome diagram boards rather only in 2. Quarter on the market, S3 the chip come however surely marketing-effectively already in former times, thus still in the 1. Quarter present. Then the delta chrome with Mainstream chips will have itself to measure the then available other DirectX9: ATi RV350 and nVidia NV31, which no simple bread will surely be. But S3 possibly surprises us still and the delta chrome either faster than is thought or but more favorably than thought. In these cases S3 could find its market, otherwise will it however very heavy to position delta chrome against the old-established manufacturers the ATi and nVidia without being able to offer compelling own advantages.

3D Center has most likely got all the Information about Pitou from here, so don't think they know more then do we. They just draw their own conclusions.
                no matrox, no matroxusers.
