But the downside is that this needs a small portion of developer support while HyperZ and the likes don't.

True, very true, but if developers like it and they are eating it up right now, does it really make it that much of a problem? I think not

I do know it needs developer support, however Greebe hit the head on the nail.

Well, that remains to be seen. Also, does anyone know how hard it is to implement this feature in current games?

Easier than it is to use a zillion poly background. I would imagine it could be added rather easily.

Its defenitely NEED occlusion culling and Z compression. Depht adaptive tesselation helps ONLY in certain cases and only for new apps. that will use N-Pathes and/or DM.

Chip have wide data bus but also it have much more powerful geometry engine and twice more texturing units. So balanse is pretty same as for 128 bit chips - occlusion and so can seriously improve overal performance.

Theoreticaly chip can outperform GF4 twice but lack of such culling will enable it to be only 1.3...1.5 thimes faster. (i am about current apps and no AA)

                              for those still moaning
re-read that quote from Tech Report yet again
He's not talking about DAT or DM
It doesn't sound like there's any developer support needed for this

DM & DAT is just a bonus for future games
I think when the benchmarks appear some will be asking for second helpings of chapeau

Do you really think displacement mapping doesn't need developer support?

Well it's easy to implement though.
