it either will have to be 2xDVI + 1 analog, or 1 DVI + 2x analog
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but having read the Parhelia specs again, I think that for 3 screens it has to be 3x CRT or 2xCRT + 1xDVI; that is a splitter cable cannot split the digital output, so for 3 screens 2 have to be CRT (or LCD with analogue input - that is what we use at work and it seems fine).

So go get buying those dual-input (D + A) LCDs!

Then how are matrox using it? DVI looks way better then analog. and they show the 3 monitor setup on 3 LCD's

Most LCD's have analog inputs... (seems like a stupid thing to do : Digital->Analog and then Analog->Digital, but that is the way it is done)

Indeed they do (LCDs have analogue input); in fact in the UK at the moment a great many flat panels on the market only have analogue inputs.

In the office I with lots of LCD screens running (analogue) off various G450s, G200MMSs, and Compaq on-board video, I haven't seen any real problems - if there is it is the screens' fault (they are over 2 years old now - unfortunately I don't think the average LCD will last you as long as a CRT). We are only doing 2d stuff of course.

So, what is the average lifespan of an LCD....

Hmmm... I didn't know that they don't last as long as a CRT.

Well, there is always a possibility of stuck pixels (always a colour), dead pixels (always black), hot pixels (stuck pixels, but only after a prolonged time of use),... These result in the screen not being "dead", but it might impact the users consideration of the "lifespan"...

Also consider the response times of LCDs. A total response time of 25ms is decent, but even with that low of a response time you will still see ghosting in games, esp with high framerates. But around the beginning of 2003 RTs should start going down into the teens which should be adequate enough for gaming.

Not sure of the average life of an LCD - but I suspect that it is another cunning plan by the manufacturers to build-in obsalescence (SP?).

CRTs are a very well established technology, and can go on for years and years without too much problem. LCDs on the other hand, at this sort of size, are quite new - and how many laptops do you find around that are as old as the average CRT? So without empirical evidence, I cannot be sure that they are shorter in lifespan but I can suspect it.

                    Did that make any sense?

Recently bought a 19" Compaq that cost less than my 17"CTX, that was made redundant by lack of desk real estate.

All I need is a bigger desk, and a second PR711F and I'll be a happy triple-headed bunny!

I'm not a fan of LCD's, personally. They're a lot of expense, just to save a foot and a half of desk space that'd just get cluttered with junk, anyway. For the same price I bought my 19" for, I could have bought a budget 15"LCD. No comparison.

Also if you don't run the LCD at optimum res, the text gets ghostie, and stuff.

Agree with you there. LCD at the moment doesn't make sense for home computing if you have a reasonable amount of space and don't move too often.

Offices and "mobile" desktops really see the benefits though, especially with sq ft costs for Central London office space!
