Hmmm maybe they are considering Parhelia as they considered G200.. it's a new testbed and in a few time they'll bring the real kickass we want. I'd like to see a Parhelia version of G400max... it's gotta be awesome... go Matrox, GO!

This is from the matrox forum
ElDonAntonio: Speaking of Matrox boys, I met one the other day at a party. I couldn't get much out of him (I even tried to get him drunk so he'd give me some inside info but he just said "whoah, I can see in gigacolor!" ), but he did tell me that they had 4-5 products in the pipeline.
Now to my knowledge, there's the 64 and 256 MB Parhelias coming out. It still leaves 2-3 unknown products. My guesses would be:
1) A parhelia revision
2) The next-gen card
3) Some video add-in card
What do you guys think?
Haig: Your guesses are somewhat accurate.
ElDonAntonio: Haig, can you tell me what score out of 3 I get? (1 point for each right guess)
Haig: You get at least a 1
I wasn't counting the next gen card since that's a given

The Graphics division doesn't make video input hardware any more, so that leaves....Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Wow, I've just had my closest encounter to stardom...I've been quoted on MURC!!!
Personally I'm pretty sure they're working on a P revision. It would be stupid not to. They have a great chip and a great card, they're not going to start again from scratch just to get it faster. I guess they could have it out during Q1 2003.
As for the video possibility, Ãt's just a hunch but I'm not convinced that Matrox Graphics won't release anymore video products.
Edit: come to think about it, I don't see why Matrox is taking so much time releasing the 64MB and 256MB versions. There shouldn't be any major modifications, espescially for the 64MB version. The only explanation I can see is that they're tweaking the hardware so that these versions get a performance boost. I wonder what they'll do with the 128 one in that case though.
Edit2: wth?? this is not my first post here!!Last edited by ElDonAntonio; 17 September 2002, 15:44.

I think one of the reasons behind the dalay on the 64 and 256MB versions is that Matrox wants some AGP 3.0 boards, preferably from Intel, in house for testing before releasing them.
We know the chip is 8X compatable, just not sure if the board is. I doubt they want to repeat the problems with the first G400s not being 4X capable.

You would have preferred a 30000 word essay?
From what i had read, the G550 was an advancement from the G400 core with an extra pipeline and DDR memory, which was introduced with the G450.
It is right to suppose that the G550 was a cut down version of the fabled G800, but since the G800 never made it, i just accepted the fact that the G550 was a final re-hash of the G400 core....

Boosting the 64MB version might not seem right from Matrox... I just can't picture them have lower memory version going as fast as the 128 version that so many guys paid so dearly to have as a premium... the 256 mb version in opposite should receive perf boost... maybe they're waiting for AGP 8X to be out... I think next time Matrox should send in the lower version first at a good price/perf ratio.. after all the supposed target of M isn't the game market. And afterward get a better and faster version.. that's how I would have done it... but then again I'm not Matrox.Let those who want to be simple, be simple.

- Tritech Pyramid3D TR203 / TR202 / TR204 (at least TR202 and TR 204 maded to silicon.)
- Rendition Verite V3300 / V4400 (basically one and same chip. V4400 has been supposedly demoed behind closed doors.)
- Voodoo Graphics SLI -version (at least one known prototype card exists.)
- Bitboys Axe (propably would have been called "Bitboys Avalanche 3D", Seen it, Hold it, but still not in my bookshelf.)
- 6MB and 16MB versions of Voodoo2. (first one officially launched, but I never saw it on stores. second one was last V2's made by 3dfx themselves and it was called Voodoo 2 1000 16MB. pretty rare ones nowadays.)
and I would say that G800 was the final rehash of G-series core and G550 was G800 LE or VE..."Dippadai"
