  • Well, I think the movie is not as good as the first one. There were too many fight scenes (why use "enhanced" martial arts when you can "warp" reality - which goes for both the agents and Neo), and they lasted too long. The feel of reality in the fights (as Ssin mentions) lacked. The see-the-bullet-slow-motion gimmick wasn't used often, but I feel it was used in some of the wrong occasions.

But this has nothing to do with the story. The story itself was OK, but yielded less surprises (or they were presented in a too linear fashion to stand out).
(but this is just my opinion...)

They weren't able to create a perfect computer generated actor (yet), so they just recorded a lot of different facial expressions for neo and smith and pasted them onto computer generated bodies.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

      • No. They only recorded one expression for Keanu. The "look, I'm made of plastic" expression. That's why I disliked that scene immensely.

        • Heres someones thoughts on the Second Matrix theory thats going around:

Ok i've been following this thread intently as the movie truely caught my attention and i also had a ton of questions.

I just saw the movie again tonight for the second time. I think i'm starting to beleive the entire 2nd Matrix for the "Real World" thoery. These clues almost solidify the fact and i'm surprised someone else hasn't brought it up.

Did anybody notice that programs in the Matrix knew a bit too much about events going on in the "Real World"?

First is the Mervincian (SP?)(WTF). When he is talking to Morpheus he tells him "we all know how good you are at taking orders...". Thats a direct shot at Morpheus for not following the Commanders orders of bring back all the ships to Zion.

Second is when Neo goes to talk to the Oracle. She tells him "You haven't been sleeping much". Thats something that is happening to him in the "Real World" and she seems to know about it. Yes she's the Oracle but i found that somewhat weird.

Third one is that Agent Smith during one of his confrontations with Neo (i think at the end in the back door corridors) mentions something that would only be known to people in the "Real World". Sorry i can specifically say what but i've already forgot just while writing this post, if it comes to me i'll post it.

All these points plus the part in the end where Neo stops the sentinels are starting to convert me to the 2nd Matrix theory. But also for some reason if you think about it someone has set the rules so that Agents can't enter the second matrix, probably just to fool the Zionites.

Just thought of something else, does anybody else think that the guy who was "taken over" by Agent Smith in the "Real World" is kind of going through a trapped soul type of experience? If you remember the part where he is cutting his own hand with the knife, it kind of looks like the inner soul is trying to hurt the Smith or foul up the Smiths plans. But then the Smith grabs control back and moves on with the mission of trying to kill Neo?
          And

AAAAACk just thought of a few other things.

So the Zionites think the war has been going on for 100 years. But we later learn that there have been 6 "Ones" that reset the matrix and destroy Zion with their choice of the Right door. So our belief now is that its actually been 600 years since the war has started each time repopulated by 23 people (13 Women and 7 Men).

Anybody do the numbers and figure out if 23 people can become 250,000 within 100 years? And yes i am factoring in people that have been released from the Matrix but even then if you throw in a figure of 100k released Matrix born people you still have to get 150k people out of 23. Seems a bit strange, even if they banged like Rabbits i don't think they could come out with 250k people...
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Guess math works differently in the matrix (or some of them/all of them/one of them)?

            • lets say this instead :
The machines are soo afraid of Neo (who wouldent with his plastic face?) that they are trying really hard to make him go mad by telling him fairytales

Jokes aside, whatever is "told" to Neo by the machines or their associates should be taken with some salt
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

              • And also another theory on why Neo could "zap" the sentinels in "realspace"
He is still conected partly to the matrix and theough it made them go zap!

Machines knowing that Morpheus disobeyed Zion can be normal radiosurveilance

And the oracle "knowing" that Neo didn't sleep well in the real world is not a reason that she knows anything
It could easily be like the fact that your mom always knows even if she don't

Um ... without getting into advanced math ...

A woman can bear 15-20 kids MAX, but we'll say they have 15 each. Assuming that these 13 women have good birthing hips, and they breed so inbreeding doesn't hurt the genetic population, gen 2 would have 195 people.

For simplicity, let's say all of the children survive to a reproductive age and gen 2 is 50/50 between men and women, that gives gen 2 with 98 women (rounded up). Assuming the average generation is every 25 years (the women need time for the body to recooperate), you can have 4 generations ... so working the numbers...

                  Gen 2 = 195
Gen 3 (not including survivors of the previous generation) = 1470
                  Gen 4 = 11025
                  Gen 5 = 82695

... and the 100 years are up. If we say 0% of gen 1 is alive with Gen 5, 10% with Gen 2, 25% with Gen 3, 50% with Gen 4, the total population would be approximately = 89000 people.

There are of course a million other variables that would change it. That's not including the breeding population taken from the Matrix, which could vastly boost the total number of people after 100 years, since population growth is exponential.

For example, if Gen 1 pulled 100 reproductively capable people from the Matrix, of which 50% were women, that would increase the total number of Gen 5 by 316000+ people (that's not even including survivors of the previous generations OR people brought in by Gen 2-5 OR the offspring of those brought in by Gen 2-5).

So in theory ... yes it's very possible.

                  Phew.

                  Jammrock

                  Gen 1 = 100
                  Gen 2 = 750
                  Gen 3 = 5625
                  Gen 4 = 42195
                  Gen 5 = 316470

                  • But not everyone breeds like Mormons.

Still, it IS possible. Not to mention that the Zion-born are a minority, or so I'm given to understand. Morpheus says that they had freed more in the past 6 months (since finding Neo, I would think) than in the previous 60 years. (Or was it 6 years?) So the rate of freedom is going up, too.

On the other hand, they almost always take teenagers from the Matrix. They don't take older people... remember, their minds are too rigid to accept the truth. So they're guaranteed horny, hormone-filled breeders.

250k is a pretty reasonable number. Look how many people live in China, despite the 1-child-per-couple rule!

I'll have you know that Mormons are #3 on the list of heavy breeder, thank you very much! Muslims are first, they still do practice polygamy, followed by those "we don't use birth control" Catholics

Yes, 250k is very reasonable in 100 years. I was just giving an example.

And China doesn't have the 1 kid per couple rule any more.

I just watched Revolution's trailer. I got the feeling this is going to be one hell of a ride.
