Why has the rest of the world have to suffer because chinese have strange eating habits
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

I heard that there was a truck that had just come over the border from mexico that turned over in Laredo. It was full of frozen cats bound for U.S. Chinese food places.

I might never eat chinese food again..

About 10 years ago a Chinese restaurant was closed near here because the food inspectors found alley cats in their freezer

One chinese restaurant here was closed because they served rats - still I don't think other restaurants don't do that kind of stuff, and I enjoy going to restaurants, chinese are one of my favourites (mmmhhh duck...).

Not an urban myth. I could name names since my father-in-law was one of the city officials there when the county came to close the doors

Here some places with chinese and vietnameese food were closed because they'd been getting supplies from some locals haunting on cats/dogs...
wonder how many people have got some parasites in the meantime. after all...lack of veterinary control. not to mention that serving those animals here is just illegal.
I guess it's better not to bring some aspects of distant culture to other one (well...differences between them are practically the only reasons nobody here wants/it is forbidden to eat cats/dogs. oh wait...there's also that little thing: cats/dogs doesn' have to pass strict veterinary control).

and regarding cats and sars - I wonder how lacking is this control now in there...and if it is possible to make it better/change some habits quickly.

You kidding? If it's an asian country it'll have any animal as an entree. All I have to say is, don't knock it till you've tried it=P

Mind you, be verily careful where you eat. Many places have questionable quality control. Having worked in several restaurants and Delis here in America, I can't say anything too great about cleanliness here either. Definately never eat out if you're a vegetarian.

Check again. The article specifically mentions Civet being prized meat in Hong Kong.

Quite right. I also think this happens in HK, but I'm not sure. A friend of mine was in China on business, and at the upscale restaurant, he "got" to choose his own dog from the kennel.[/QUOTE]

Well to most people here, cats and dogs are cared for almost like children, and the only people who eat children are evil witches like the one in Hansel and Gretel.

God only knows what those bits of meat in the eggrolls are.
