Who in the name of GOD would hot rod a Renault or Peugeot motor unless it had a Lotus body on it?

(I raced in a Lotus Europa ages ago, but doubt if my right leg would fit in one now!)

WyWyWyWy: don't do it man!! Car modding is destroying my life!! TRUST me man, once you get into car modding, its HARD to stop. I've already spent over $4000 in the past 3 months (money I don't have, HELLO Visa/Credit Line), and I have plans to spend a few more grand before the summer is over. RUN AWAY from car modding!! Save yourself!! Is there a "modoholics anonymous" I could join?

If you don't have a car now, I'm assuming - or is that wrong to do - that you don't need one or wouldn't mind it having down time occasionally. Look for an old muscle car, or even a relatively new muscle car. They can be had for pretty cheap and you can rebuild most of what they have in them with a little bit of elbow greese, junkyard shopping, and cussing.

I don't know if you have already discovered it, but http://auto.howstuffworks.com/ has some pretty basic stuff for cars that you might be interested in reading.

Dr. M - How the hell could a honda on 'roids sound good!

No offense people, but modding fwd for 25 - 30, even 100 hp just seems like a waste to me. I would just assume that if you're buyin a fwd car, your gonna be usin it for a daily driver and crap like that. Why not spend the money you'd spend on body kits, fart-can exhausts and spoilers - don't flame me, I know SOME people actually put real things on those cars, but in LA most people don't - a second car that you can make some real power with. I see these shows on the speed channel about body kits and what nots that go for like, 400, 500 bucks or more (some less), 500+ bucks on rims (easily!), exhaust kits for similar prices, blah blah blah - and for that price, you can buy an entire different car that can sit in your garage for a long time until you finally get it fixed up, but it will blow the "daily driver" out of the water.

          Maybe it's just me.

Oh, and take the Rock's advice Avoid stereo's as a money losing habit too...

            1. 1. with an Abarth exhaust a Sears lawn tractor would sound good

            2. you can get up to 400 BHP or more (lots more if you have enough money) with a full shot rebuild in a compact car. Imagine that in an Accord or Civic SI

With that kind of money, imo it'd be better to buy different car. But I didn't know they could pull off that kind of power. Thanks

To further scare this man away from car modding, this is what I've spent since I bought my car (2002 BMW 320i sedan):

                Tints - $200CDN
                Clear turn signals (front/rear/sidemarkers) - $650CDN
                18 x 8.5" Breyton Magic rims/235-40-18 tires - $3000CDN used
Carbon Fibre interior trim - $400USD
Carbon Fibre shift knob & ebrake handle - $220USD
High Performance brake pads - $220CDN
                C.A.I. - $225CDN
Sports Package springs - $440CDN for springs, $465CDN for install

Its an addiction like no other, and I've done drugs so trust me I know. Worst part: your NEVER done/satisfied. Now I'm looking at a new M3-look front bumper ($900+tax/shipping for the parts, $400-$600 to get it painted, $300-$500 for install), maybe a new exhaust (roughly $700USD for a decent one), etc. SOMEONE SHOOT ME OR SOMETHING!!!! Don't get into this crap man! SAVE YOURSELF!!

GT40: I know. Its crazy expensive, especially on BMWs. Fox Marketing is sponsoring 2 guys from another forum I post on (www.e46fanatics.com). Check out this modded M3:

That is one amazing BEAST of a showcar.
