A 5 series with only a little room? That doesn't sound right.

The 5 series is not as roomy as it used to be, sadly.

I think you're mistaken on this one. You can program the shift points (the rpm that each shift takes place at) and the speed of the shifts, but not the actual gear ratios. There are actual physical gears in there that mesh together at preset ratios, based entirely on the radius of each gear, and the number of teeth, etc.

The only transmissions out there with "programmable" ratios are CVTs (Continuously Variable Transmissions). They have a neat system of cone shaped things with big strong metal chains that can slide up and down on the cone, to create an infinite number of ratios. They can set it to hold a particular RPM throughout the acceleration, or they can be set to mimic a regular automatic transmission by going through a set of "shifts". There's one of these available in the new Audi A4, and I think Toyota or Nissan are working on them too. There was even one available in the old Subaru Justy, but it didn't work very well, apparently.

Anyway, it's a very VERY different concept from an SMG.

The new 7 series looks like shit, yes. But even this looks much worse in the official shots than in reality.

The new 5 series is , hmm, O.K. Not more, not less.

The current 3 series looks great, especially the Cabrio.

The 4 series looks quite good, but is said to be of worse manufacturing quality compared to the other BMW models (with the exception of the also bad Z3).

The 6 series does look like shit, IMO. If I want a car that does look like one of those ugly japanese things, I might as well buy a japanese car.

On the space-discussion of the 5 series: It's not the biggest car out there, that's right. But this is done deliberately and it's IMO good this way. The space should be enough for most people, including the cargo room (is this the correct term?)
And to the seats: the 5 series has very good seats, MUCH better than the Passat. Maybe you've tested the sport-seats - those are much worse then the normal ones even though you have to pay extra for them. I drove a Passat only 3 months ago and was less than impressed. Bad (performance-lacking) and noisy motor, still consuming quite much fuel, the whole interieur looks damn cheap and the suspension is only mediocre at best.

I only drove once in it as a passenger, and that was months ago. I'm very short, and was a little overweight then (I'm very overweight now), still didn't find it comfortable at all.

Well, as I said, I think I'll know the exact model within the next few weeks.

Chris Bangle, the homo behind all these new designs, should be CASTRATED IN PUBLIC for creating these monstrosities. The new 6 series is an AWFUL looking car, and Bangle has totally RUINED the 5 series too. I'm so thankful I bought an E46 3 series before his ghey ass got to it. DEATH TO BANGLE!! DEATH!!!!!

Hey Hey! lemme join this discussion

                    Arr....Bengle --> Interesting character
I really like the looks of the new BMW's, especially the 7 Series
I don't understand all the fuss, BMW is taking a new road in Design and everyone is giving them shiit about it.....
I think it rocks! Finally something new
Or why else do you think that the 7 series sales have overtaken S-Class sales in the US.
I should ask you guys: Have you ever seen one in real life? Have you ever sat in one before? If not, carefully rethink. Don't judge a book by its cover!
Thou shall see BMW 760iL with Loewenhart wheels....if i can find a picture...it is AWESOME!!

Yes, I have. I'm a BMW enthusiast. I own one, my friends all own them, and I've driven more than my fair share.

And the new ones are UGGGGGGGH-LY. Outside.

                      The insides are nice.

While I dont like that pic of the M6, and havent seen the new 5 in real life yet, I really like the looks of the 7 series and the Z4.

The reason why the M6 looks so american might be that the head designer at BMW is an american at the moment, I think

The rear end of the new 7-series (and the new 5-series to a lesser extent) looks like a really heavy dragon sat on it... and farted.
