OK, so here's the deal:
Therefore it would be most economical to get everything in 1 to 3 different shops and collecting VAT from brick and mortar shops is more convenient.
I could go there with money, buy the stuff, store it at friends, have someone who goes to munich on regular basis drive it here and collect VAT latter.
I could certainly save money, question is:
How much, is it worth the hassle.
Therefore I'd kindly ask you:
Here's the list of things I intend to buy:
1 Chieftec CS-2001 big tower case (Antec OK as well)
1 Antec True Power 430W
3 Zalman F1
1 TYAN S2466N4 DUAL +LAN
2 ATHLON XP 2500+
2 Thermalright SK-7
2 Zalman F1
2 Corsair CM72SD512RLP-2100 512MB (Some other brand name ECC registered OK)
1 TOSHIBA SD-M1712 16X48 IDE (black, Pioneer ok as well)
2 ATA 100 cable
1 FDD 3.5' 1.44MB BLACK
1 Hercules Digifire 7.1
1 LOGITECH CORDLESS DESKTOP MX
1 LITE ON 48/24/48 IDE RET (beige)
1 INTEL INBUSINESS 10/100 PCI
1 LEVELONE ROUTER 4x10/100 ADSL
According to preliminary calculations, I could save up 200-400 Euros by taking this route - either a decent monitor or decent videocard.
- One buys the hardware in Germany.
- Takes it to border and declares export. If one is not a German or EU citizen (not untill May 2004), one is not entitled to pay VAT (Mehrwertsteuer). The receipts are stamped at EU (Si/At borders).
- After that, one goes back to shop with stamped receipt and collects VAT, which is 16% (1/1,16 = 86,2%, delta is 13,8%)
This makes all the difference.

- to give me a few URLs of /recommend a few brick and mortar HW stores in Munich.
- Some of the hardware I'd like to buy is not everyday office/gaming part, so it could be slightly more difficult for shops to have it in stock. What's the proababilty for that?
