Yep, it's bad news for Gray Davis. He'll get little done in office while contemplating all of the Collateral Damage he has done to the state of California, anxiously awaiting the End of Days of his political career. To make matters worse, The Running Man Arnold Schwarzenegger just added his name to the list running in the Total Recall election. Darrel Issa, the man who financed this campaign to oust Davis, feels as if he is getting a Raw Deal by Schwarzenegger's entrance, as he is drawing all the steam from his campaign to become govenor. But at least the people of the great state of California can now hold their heads up high, as they will no longer be under the rule of this political Predator and all of his True Lies!
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
[Gary] Coleman, whose candidacy as an independent is being promoted by an Oakland newspaper to protest the recall process, said that he thinks Schwarzenegger will win. Coleman even said he would vote for the Terminator.
"Now that Arnold is in the race, there is no race. Gray Davis needs to pack his bags," said Coleman, 35, who played a boy named Arnold in the TV series from 1978 to 1986. "I'm going to stay in the race, but I'm not going to campaign." (Full story)
Common, if Gary Coleman says Davis is through, you know it's over!

PS - have any of the CA MURCers posted their thoughts on it, since it effects them the most.

Hmmm... can any of the american MURCers explain why they think that an Actor would make a good politician? A manager, that I could understand, but do you think an actor is a good enough politician/manager to run a state? Or do you reckon politicians are only actors/puppets anyway, and the real work is done by men/women in the background, so an actor would be perfect for the task (of getting your favourite party elected in the first place, and of maintaining the illusion that the actor really does the work)?

Well, I think people are so sick of sleazy two-faced lying lawyers here being our only choices for politicians that when some guy we know and like runs, he's likely to get a favorable response, especially when his whole image is being a direct, no-nonsense good guy. That's the same reason Bush got elected.. with Gore you could smell the bullshit from miles away.. just another uptight sleazy lawyer out to screw us all.

AND Ventura. And maybe H.R. Perot, too, if he'd had the yarbles to stick with it (and hadn't been such a nutcase).
Actually, I think Issa would like to have Arnold in the Governer's Mansion. Issa is one DRIVEN dude...I lived in that area when he started DEI (Viper Car Alarms), and everyone found him rather intense. But the good thing was, if a better idea came along, he nearly always went with it. So it may be with office of the Governer.

Don't forget that one of the most beloved (not just tolerated) Presidents of the last 100 years was an actor: Ronald Reagan. He won both of his elections by landslides and to this day even his political enemies envy the connection he had with the US populace. Even those same enemies now recognize that his policies went a long way towards ending the Cold War.
They called Ronald Reagan a "dumb actor" in his day.

Odd. I'm not seeing much in the way of apoplexy, and I actually live in California. What I am seeing, and I bet you'll see these words bandied about a lot, is more of a circus or carnival atmosphere. People who are sensitive to out-of-state criticism are embarrassed. Most people seem to be entertained. And why not. He announced his intention to run on the Tonight Show. I see some bemusement and a lot of amusement.
There are people who have never voted Republican in their lives who will vote for Arnold in a heartbeat. They believe he somehow transcends politics and party lines. I believe his politics will be closer to Davis than many people here expect. Davis alienated his base by moving to the right on numerous issues. If elected, Schwarzenegger may eventually run into similar problems with the Republican base in the south if he actually is a moderate on social issues. It's one of the problems Pete Wilson had and one of the perils of holding state-wide office in such a large, diverse place.
Of course, if the economy picks up, he has nothing to worry about.
I suspect a short campaign will benefit Schwarzenegger. I'm not entirely comfortable with making political predictions concerning California, but I believe he'll win big if the election is held in October. If the election is held next March, it may be another story entirely.
Personally i am not fooled by the honest Arnold, or the peoples Arnold or even Arnold, one of us. He will just push his supporters agenda like every other politician (real or acting like one). However he is a sympathetic guy, so i have no doubt he will win. I'd give him a chance
However i heard he is pretty much on the right sight politically.
