The big problem is that most of these quick lube places employ mostly kids with little or no automotive experience (or common sense). .
This doesn't excuse the dealers and or garages from the shoddy work they do. And please don't tell me that the foreign dealers are any better - I worked at one for a while and I could tell you plenty of horror stories. Most mechanics float from dealer to dealer to shop. There are plenty of good ones, and just as many bad ones. It's all in the luck of the draw whic one you get - if you find a good one make sure you ask for him personally next time.
I'm from the school that says if you want a job done right do it yourself, and the only thing I haven't done so far is rebuild a tranny - geting a used one is much more time/cost effective. (But I may do this some day when I'm bored).
