      Go for accountancy jobs.

At least that way they can't claim you're over-qualified (well, I presume anyway )

At least I'm not the only one having trouble getting a job. Then again, I've been unemployed by choice (hell was getting hot) for only a month, while Gurm has been out of the work force for much longer. Best of luck to you bud.

Yeah, I'm tailoring the resume too. Best not to give TOO much information. In the past couple days I've banged out the:

            - IT job only resume
            - Look I'm a developer resume
            - Jack of all trades resume

            We'll see how that works.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
            I would still get screwed

Maybe don't mention that you want to take night classes - because you're basically telling them "I need this job so I can qualify myself because I want to move higher up".

Try Nashua Memorial Hospital: I don't know now, but their IT system used to be hopeless.

                  Three things, Jason...

One: Don't sell yourself on the resume'. Understate everything, make sure when they check you out that they find out for themselves that you are a little bit better than what you are saying in print. Answer only those questions posed to you by their resume' requirements.

Two: Tell them you want a career with their company, emphasizing stability and room for advancement to feed your family and your ambitions in the years to come. Make clear that you want to know and understand their business its needs as you learn and grow to become their finest employee.

Three: Don't a answer question with another question. "Yes" and "No" are two oftentimes difficult words to say, with emphasis the latter, and a heathy dose of temperance on the former.

One last thing, and you won't find it on any list of things: Believe It.

Yeah, I've been working on toning down the resume as well. Sort of "just the facts, Ma'am" and then when they ask be honest without tooting my own horn too much. Let my references speak for themselves...

Not that I've gotten too many requests for the references. This market SUCKS, lemme tell ya.

                      Check out IT teaching.

Also, have you ever considered a different field from IT?

Politics would be a short career

teaching basic PC skills is something the older gerations need families give them a PC and they havent a clue how to run it

then you can offer higher classes to those who want it and get good $$ doing it

as long as the wife has ins on you and the family, who cares how stable a teaching job would be
