Well Pit, I'd say it's an exploitation of the innocent and naive, and a very handy tool for those who want to manipulate and/or enslaven the flock. They bait the trap with the few rays of light that still shine through. Hope and inspiration for the weary... on the religions' terms. The flock have to eat 99% bullshit to get 1% nourishment. And since that 1% goes a long way, the sheep become hooked. That's the way I see religion. Religiousness has nothing to do with anybody else but yourself.
As for reality, I don't know very many people who can handle it. They've been fed and raised with so many illusions and dillusions they wouldn't recognize reality if it bit them. Which BTW, is what reality does when you don't recognize it.
