Oh I know that. Quite funny, the liberties that translators take.

To be back on topic, it does look like from watching some of the extra stuff on The Two Towers Extended Edition that they did in fact film the part of Saruman talking to Gandalf from Orthanc, there is a short shot of them filming it from above. Though at this moment in time, I can't recall which extra it was. Damn early morning...

Yes. We needn't worry that much. The theatrical release will be grand and sweeping and epic and thoroughly enjoyable, and then the extended edition will come out and fix it so it's like the books.

Sorry, but you have to introduce a character if you want it to be into a book. Unless, obviously, you intend to not to speak about him at all in the book, which is the case when you don't introduce the char at all.

So, when Tolkien introduce Theoden, it becomes pretty obvious after a few pages that he will die somewhere, sometimes and probably in an heroic way.
Thus because, after reading a few books dated before 1953 (you have about 30000 years of writing history to pick from), you soon (and easily) understand the way things works, and you can easily distinguish between a "will die" char and a "will not die" char after a few pages after it's introduction.

Furthermore, you can easily distinguish between a "will die heroically with full honour and glory" and a "will die like a gay rabbit with full depreciation (<-?) from the author", like between Denethor's and Theoden's death.
Even more, you can easily predict the entire plot of a book especially when it's "plot-driven", like LOTR.

Apart from this, I like LOTR, I like Tolkien's work, and this discussion is going nowhere
After all the books I've read, I think that LOTR is totally copied, full of "already seen" things, full of cliche', full of "deus ex", placed in a world that's totally unbelievable ("The Opera is a place where a man is murdered and instead of die, sings". "Middle earth is a place where an elf last 40000 years and instead of evolve, sleep")

If, after reading those tons of books you did read, you still think that LOTR is an incredible original work full of innovative things...who cares, if you like it I'm happy for you. No need to share the same pov to be friends, right?
