  • SADDAM CAPTURED ?? Looks like it....

US and Kurd forces mounted a raid on a Tikrit residence last night. As a result of this raid a person strongly believed to be Saddam Hussein was captured along with several other persons.

There is nothing confirmed about his condition, but most reports say that he WAS catured alive and is being interrogated.

DNA testing is underway to confirm the identity of this person, but the news agencies are reporting that "sources at the highest levels of the US government" believe they have him.

There will be a news conference at 1200 GMT about the events of last night.

The news is reporting widespread celebratory gunfire in Baghdad and other cities. I can just imagine.....

Wonder what the trial will be like?

    EDIT:

Reuters is reporting that DNA tests confirm that the man captured last night in Tikrit is Saddam Hussein.

the trial? me too, as the international court of justice was never approved....

anyway, I'm surprised. I thought he would be captured closer to the date of the election.

Maybe they just should give him to the Kurds for "interrogation"...

Nah, that would be too mean...

Mean? Maybe, but I'd say just by any measure given what he's done to them. Maybe the Kures and Shi'ia could tag-team?

As far as the court goes the word of late has been that the Iraqi's would try war criminals including Saddam. Not good for the bad guys.

Also: the UK government is also reporting that Saddam Hussein is in custody.

Cool.. maybe this will help the situation over there.. they got a load of cash he was carrying around, too. At least he can't fund any more clandestine attacks.

They are saying he had a long grey beard and that he was digging himself a hole to hide in in the basement of that house when the troops came to get him. They had to get shovels to dig him out.

speaking of the dna-test: where do they have the "guaranteed original saddam DNA (c)" sample to compare with from?

                      Poor bugger
Too bad they didn't catch Osama yet -you know, the guy who started all this fight on terror shit- but I'm sure they'll make the most of Saddam's capture.

They just said that when Saddam's sons were killed there were 6 deaths in Iraq from random celebratory gunfire. Wonder how many there will be today?

I would think that his sons' DNA would also help in the test if they did not have Soddems' DNA for sure, no? (Dr. M. would know).
