The DNA of his sons alone would really suffice AFAIK. and if this matches the ones of the person captured and of the toilet articles, then there's nothing to doubt (well, except that maybe Saddams sons weren't from him but from one of the doubles )

So no real place for conspiracy theories - of course there's always hpar, LiquidMemory and the like, but you definitely won't want be one of them...

that's what I was thinking of - one person paranoid enough to "keep" several doubles could push the security that far. just in case.
and then there is always the possibility of a cheating wife (not as uncommon as you would believe - iirc ~10% of the children are not what their fathers think they are. )

Most unlikely in a Muslim context, imho. They have a different view of adultery than we do. After all, it is a capital crime in many places, especially those where the relatively modern Shar'ia law is practised.

Problem is that as he was captured alive, his followers will step up attacks to put pressure on US officials for his release.

As for a trial, if found guilty of the crimes he is known for, there will be those who feel the US and its interests influenced the court procedings to get the guilty verdict.

2. cell nuclear DNA from hair roots in his hairbrush, toothbrush (cells from his gums), electric razor (dead skin cells sucked into same), clothing (dead skin cells adhering to their inside surfaces) or even any of his known shoes and socks (more dead skin cells).

3. cell nuclear DNA from any envelopes/stamps he's known to have licked.

4. mitochondrial DNA from a grandmother/mother/siblings, all of which will be identical and passed down the maternal line.

5. fingerprints from any documents he signed

6. documented scars and other body markings

7. captured dental records

among many other methods.
