Yeah, the Dark Side of the Moon, is just as often light as the light side is....

Putting a radio telescope on the far side of the moon, which always faces away from the Earth, is an advantage for any telescope bur particularly for radio telescopes.

Placed in this manner the telecsope would, for most of the month, be shielded from interference coming not only from the earth but also solar events.

Typo noted and corrected....but the effect vs. solar wind interference from Earth holds.

Plus, you could build one in low gravity that would make Arecibo look like a postage stamp.

You know, I really don't want to build or excavate the moon. Our ancestors have seen the same moon for as long as there has been life on this planet. Who are we to suddenly decide to "renovate" it?

I'm pretty sure none of our ancestors ever saw the far side of the moon.

Didn't anybody get any sleep around here last night?

As if we'd limit ourselves to the far side once we landed.

I see no problem with using for something useful....
Let us return to the moon, to stay!!!

I thought the moon acted as some sort of counter weight, keeping our planet spinning nicely ?
Wouldn't reducing its mass upset the balance ?

Mining it for Helium-3, a gas, would have no appreciable effect.

We have wildlife preserves for a reason, especially because some people would find the land and animals "useful." The moon seems much more important to me than that.

um.. no. Mine the hell out of the moon and it will still be the same as we see it from Earth.. who cares? You're being irrational. Preserving the ecosystem from manic destruction by profit hungry megacorps is of absolute importance. We are talking about the circle of life versus a lifeless rock.
