Well, it's not Starship Troopers style with people being cut in half by giant bugs gore.

It'd be interesting to see someone make a movie called "The Inquisition" with as much "dedication" to detail as the Passion... I bet that'd go over really well.

I finally went and saw this film. Missed the first few minutes because there were no previews. When I walked in, the high priests were throwing money at Judas to turn traitor.

The gore was pretty graphic but not overplayed. It is not a film made by or for sadists. The gospels say Christ was flayed and crucified, and that he is. The story is character-driven, though. It focuses on Christ's experiences on this day, often directly from his point of view. Caviezel did an excellent job.. a better portrayal of Jesus than I have ever seen before. His goodness flows from strength.. he is not the wussy-goody-two-shoes Jesus shown in the majority of TV movies and such.

As to charges of antisemitism, I don't see it. The high priests are certainly a bunch of evil, self-serving pricks, but it is clear that all the priests are not this way, and many do not want to condemn Jesus at all. Some are even tossed out of the kangaroo court when they object. It is quite clear that there are good Jews and evil Jews, good Romans and evil Romans, good and evil in us all. Christ himself asked forgiveness for the guilty parties, yet Jews have suffered much over the years because many accused them as a group of killing Christ. There is no call for this whatsoever.. how can people born after a crime carry the guilt for it, and how could anyone who calls themselves a Christian perpetrate such un-Christian behavior? No maker of this film is guilty of that, and those accusations are thoroughly unjustified, being just a part of the antireligious trend of the moment.

This is a very great film. The only thing that detracted from it was really the few moments when you could tell that Caviezel was wearing latex wounds on his body (when he bends his arm, there are creases) other than that, it's extremely worthwhile.

In sweden we ONLY dub childrens stuff, all other are subtitled
I love watching subtitled movies in Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Danish, etc. Even though I never studied these languages much at all, it's interesting to see how much one begins to somewhat intuitively understand it. The languages are so close that it seems familiar after awhile.

KVH, i think the above view is what the people involved with the film wanted everyone to have and the reason they didnt want any of it cut. I think i will watch the movie after the whole hiatus has died down.. but should catch this movie in a theatre i guess..else the atmosphere might be lost on the small screen..
